A squadron of armed unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) attacked Hama’s airbase in the outskirt of the city’s center in the late hours of May 22.
Pro-government sources said that the Syrian Air Defense Forces (SyAADF) intercepted the UAVs and managed to shoot down all of them. According to the sources, the airbase didn’t sustain any damage as a result of the attack.
However, the Hama airbase was not the only target of the attack. The Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) confirmed that at least one UAV attacked the Zara’a power plant in southern Hama causing “extensive damage to the plant’s equipment.”
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, yet. However, pro-movement sources accused Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and its Turkish-backed allies, who launched a large-scale attack on the SAA in northern Hama earlier.
The terrorist group is known to be manufacturing and operating this type DIY UAVs, which is usually armed with locally-made small projectiles. The wreckage of a UAV that was recently downed in northern Hama revealed that this model may have been modified to attack its target by hitting it directly, like suicide drones.

About the only time I know the US financed Russia was when Yeltsin was in power, and that was to help Yeltsin the drunkard destroy the country from within, lucky for Russia Putin put a stop to that pronto. Russia does not have significant combat troops in Syria, just enough for protection of its own assets and training. The SAA is the only one with the manpower to clear out tens of thousands of Turkish backed rebels.
You’re right, the Russians only have the bare essentials for the job at hand, that’s why I keep asserting what many experts, and some official Russian statements allude to, the war in syria isn’t costing the Russians that much at all. The Russians themselves keep boasting about all the valuable combat experience their high level commanders are getting, and all the testing they can now do in real life combat situations, “invaluable experience that money can’t buy” is a quote often heard from the Russians. Official Russian statements claim the bulk of the Syrian campaign expenses are resourced from the existing military research and training budget, hence the term cost neutral, I have no reason to doubt them, though many of my fellow commentators say that’s a false claim, but that’s only because they don’t read much else apart from SF. A war that is practically cost neutral if not entirely cost neutral, and delivers real combat training and testing situations, why would Putin be in a hurry to end that, the Russian military might be testing out anti drone and anti rocket defence systems at their airbase right now, that might help explain why the rebels are attacking them every single day with rockets or drones, they’re actually assisting the Russians in developing better defence measures LOL. Russia needs a combat capable ground force in Syria, and also needs to use it, the war needs to end and Putin himself needs to end it. I used to blame Erdogan for the continuation of the Syrian war, I now realize I was wrong, it’s Putin who doesn’t want the war to end, he has many different reasons to let it continue, least of all combat experience for his troops.
