The head of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) Vahram Baghdasaryan says that his faction has a consolidated decision, and Armenia will have Prime Minister on May 8, state-run Armenia News reported on May 4.
“During the previous vote we did not interfere, but we are supporting now”, Baghdasaryan stressed.
Asked about the deputies voting for the only Prime Minister candidate Nikol Pashinyan (opposition leader), the head of the RPA faction answered:
“If they do not vote, how will he be elected? Please, leave these questions to us.”
Vahram Baghdasaryan assured that some members of their faction would vote for Pashinyan and he would be elected, according to Zhamanak (Time) newspaper.
The deputy head of RPA Armen Ashotyan told that RPA would consider itself the opposition despite retaining a majority of lawmakers in parliament:
“In my personal opinion, there is no way of any cooperation with new political forces,” he said. “We will not be part of this government.”
Meanwhile, on April 3, Nikol Pashinyan held meetings with the Head of the EU Delegation to Armenia: Ambassador Piotr Świtalski, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Russia to Armenia Ivan Volynkin, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the USA to Armenia Richard Mills, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to Armenia Giorgi Saganelidze, Armenia News reported on May 4.
“I informed the Ambassadors about the agreements aimed at solving the domestic political crisis. We also discussed other issues referring to bilateral relations. Meetings with diplomats accredited in Armenia will continue”, Pashinyan said.
On May 8, the parliament will elect a new Prime Minister for the second time. If they fail, President will be forced to dissolve the parliament and appoint early elections in 30-45 days.
On April 23, then Prime Minister Serzh Sargsyan resigned amid anti-government protests. The opposition demanded to carry out parliamentary election. On May 1, the National Assembly (NA) did not elect Prime Minister. The only candidate Nikol Pashinyan gained 45 for and 56 against votes as the ruling RPA voted against Pashinyan. On May 3, Nikol Pashinyan was renominated as a prime minister candidate with the signature of 41 deputies. NA Vice Chairman, RPA spokesperson Eduard Sharmazanov told that the RPA would support the election of Prime Minister.
Why is the Republican Party of Armenia just handing over power to these American puppets? Surely they should pick their own wo/man and elect that person to the position of Prime Minister. There’s something very strange going on. Are the RPA leadership under some kind of mafia-style threat? Do they think this “peaceful” transition of power will go better for them than it did for the Party of Regions in the Ukraine?
If so, they are very naive. Someone should explain the lay of the land to them urgently.
Maybe they reckon this is a fire that has to burn out, rather then be extinguished and keep on smouldering underneath the radar. If the people can see what chaos these ‘revolutionaries’ will bring they will thing twice before supporting them again.
Most of Armenians are against this gvernment. New elections will come and this is the most fair. Also the army was against this karabach rat. armenia sunk in bitter poorness during last decades. no surprize, that people are nervous and comes the revolt. do you know, that in armenia there is no health insurance? armenians are able to survie thanks to dollars and euros sent by armenians working in the wstern countries. at home the maffians and oligarchs stole everything what was possible.
Nobody is interested in retarded CNN propaganda crap from your dirty, cheap, monkey mouth, always full of yankee shit and piss.
