On February 24, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and the National Defense Forces (NDF) repelled an attack by Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and its allies from the Free Syrian Army (FSA) on their positions around the city of al-Ba’ath north of the Golan Heights, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).

Syrian pro-government sources reported that the SAA had killed seven HTS fighters and had destroyed two vehicles, an armored vehicle and a battle tank of HTS and its allies with ATGMs. The SAA didn’t lose any soldier in the clashes, according to the sources.
In response to the attack, the SAA heavy artillery shelled several positions of HTS and the FSA in the town of al-Hamidia, located only 1km south of al-Ba’ath.
Over the last week, HTS and several FSA groups in southern Syria have shelled key positions of the SAA and its allies in the governorates of Daraa and al-Quneitra. The armed groups said that the shelling had been a response to the SAA attack on the Eastern Ghouta pocket.
HTS and its allies will likely launch similar limited attacks against the SAA and its allies in southern Syria, when the ground attack on the East Ghouta pocket begins.
