On January 25, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) repelled an ISIS attack on its positions in the villages of Kishmah and Ghuraybah in the southeastern Deir Ezzor countryside, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).
The SANA added that the SAA killed 25 ISIS fighters and destroyed several vehicles of the terrorist group.
Earlier, the ISIS-linked news agency Amaq reported that ISIS fighters launched a wide-scale attack on the SAA north of the city of al-Bukamal. ISIS fighters reportedly destroyed two battle tanks of the SAA in al-Salihiyah and al-Ramadi north and east of al-Bukamal with ATGMs during the attack.

Amaq didn’t report any new operations against the SAA in the last few hours. This may confirm that the first phase of ISIS attack failed. However, the terrorist group will likely launch other attacks later as it is desperate to re-establish a foothold on the western bank of the Euphrates River in order to reconnect with its besieged fighters in the Homs desert.
The SANA said that the ISIS attack was the first against the SAA in the Euphrates Valley since the western bank was fully liberated from ISIS on December 6.
Well done them Syrians; let’s hope that the Syrians and Russians have got snouts all over the Homs pocket, passing on intelligence of the intentions of the US head-chopping, heart-eating rapers.

But the map indicated that the attack came from the direction of the besieged fighters in the Homs desert. Or does the Homs desert continue on the eastern side of the Euphrates?
You are correct , the original attack was launched from ISIS troops from the east bank. Map is likely wrong .
Yes they attacked from the east Euphrates and 2 vehicles of ISIS were destroyed, along with 25 dead terrorists. The region in the desert is rather lawless and is not in any sense of urgency to clear it. Most likely ISIS are avoiding the locals in the region by not causing them any trouble.
Guess is that the YPG was pressured to allow Daesh fighters to travel through its territory and once that was done, the turks attacked.

Yes… Losses of SAA tanks and other mechanized in first 2 years of the conflict are difficult to define,…as numerous SAA arsenals, brigades in the field,bases, we’re overrun With FSA,ISUS taking and overhaul SAA mechanized. RPGs,mines,mortars etc were probably the systems achieving attrition ratios on SAA prior to the large influx of TOW and other Nation ATGMs into Syria. Training on these ATGMs may have occured in Turkey, Jordan, UAE , With experienced operators teaching units in Syria. It may not be the case that US special forces directed this. Possibly CIA with NATO instructors. One ATGM operator who got ended last year …being something of a legend , Had a recliner chair, drinks,food and radio to pick off SAA in Idlib province.
