On January 27, Public Relations Director of the Nigerian Army Brigadier General Sani Kukasheka Usman announced in an official statement that several units of the Nigerian Army supported by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) conducted a military operation against Boko Haram hideouts in the Sambisa forest and other parts of the Northeastern Borno State on January 26.
During the operation, the Nigerian Army killed seven Boko Haram fighters and injured several others, according to Brig. Gen. Usman. Moreover, Nigerian soldiers destroyed 23 vehicles and three trucks of Boko Haram.
Brig. Gen. Usman also called on the civilians in the states of Borno, Adamawa and Yobe to report any fleeing Boko Haram fighter they spot around their communities because as many injured terrorists fled the Sambisa forest after the Nigerian Army attack.
Only two soldiers of the Nigerian Army were injured during the military operation, according to Brig. Gen Usman. The injured soldiers were directly evacuated from the battlefield by the NAF.
From its side, the NAF released a video showing a series of airstrikes against several hideouts and vehicles of Boko Haram in different areas of Nigeria on January 25.
The efforts of the Nigerian Army have led to an improvement in the security situation in northeastern Nigeria over the last few years. However, lately Boko Haram started expanding its influence to new areas, mainly in the in the southeastern part of the country.
