As it was revealed by the Russian leader, Vladimir Putin, in the 12th annual meeting of the Valdai International Discussion Club in Sochi, his Syrian counterpart Bashar Al Assad would view positively the option of talking with some armed rebels groups in his country in order to altogether fight against the terrorist group.

Putin also informed of his proposal to Assad to provide rebels the same support as it has been given to the Syrian Army.

During the meeting held by both leaders in Moscow last Tuesday, the discussion over Syrian conflict and possible strategies to solve it became the main topic. Russian Minister of Foreign affairs, Sergei Lavrov and the Minister of Defense Sergei Shoigu were also part of the talks.

Assad also thanked Putin for Russian intervention in the airstrikes against ISIL since the latest advances of the antiterrorism campaign held by both countries besides the US led coalition.

Putin said that Russia will support as well a long-term peace and political settlement in Syria and encourage possible agreements if talks between Assad and rebel groups finally take place.
