At least 11 Philippine troops were killed and 14 others were wounded in clashes with ISIS-linked militants in the country’s southern island of Mindanao.
According to regional military commander Lieutenant General Cirilito Sobejana, the army scout rangers were manoeuvring for an assault when they engaged about 40 Abu Sayyaf fighters (the group is linked with ISIS) in the forested mountains off Danag village in Patikul town in Sulu province.
The battle continued for an hour before militants withdrew. The army used mortars and smalll arms to engage them.
Filed commanders Radulan Sahiron and Hatib Hajan Sawadjaan reportedly led the militants. These persons are blamed for kidnappings for ransom and beheadings in the southern Philippines.
The military claimed that a number of militants were killed or injured in the attack.
