At least 4 Azerbaijani soldiers have been killed in the border clashes with Armenian forces that strated on July 12. This time the clashes took place directly on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, i.e. not in the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (the unrecognized state controlled by Armenian forces) indicating the increasing tensions between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Both Amernia and Azerbaijan accused each other of instigating the escalation.
The Azerbaijani Defense Ministry:
“Starting from noon on July 12, units of the Armenian Armed Forces, grossly violating the ceasefire in the Tovuz district of the Azerbaijani-Armenian state border, opened fire at our positions from artillery”.
According to it, 3 soldiers were killed and 5 others were injured during the exchange of artillery fire. Later, it reported that 4th soldier was killed in a firefight with Armenian forces.
“In the night battles with artillery, mortars and tanks, our units destroyed the enemy strong point, artillery, vehicles and personnel on the territory of the military unit. The enemy hides information about its casualties,” the ministry said.
The Azerbaijani military said that the Amernian side also suffered casualties in the confrontation.

The Armenian Armed Forces accused Azerbaijan of violating its state border. The press secretary of the Armenian Ministry of Defense Shushan Stepanyan wrote on Facebook that no Armenian was killed and blamed the Azerbaijani side for the escalation.
“For some reason unknown to us, the Azerbaijani armed forces attempted to violate the state border of the Republic of Armenia in the Tavush direction in an UAZ vehicle,” Stepanyan said. “After warning the Armenian side, leaving the UAZ, the enemy troops returned to their positions.”
She added that later Azerbaijani troops supported by artillery fire tried to capture a check point of the Armenian Armed Forces, but the attack was repelled.

The issue of this plan is that Washington will never do a hand’s turn in the even of the expected collapse of Armenian forces in a direct conflict with the Turkish-Azerbaijani bloc. So, currently, the Armenian government tries to play a double game crying for help from the CSTO and Russia every time when the situation escalates, but at the same time providing an anti-Russian foreign policy.
