No signs of peace from the Azeri side.
Azerbaijan has come out with a bold statement about its conditions to end the hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh. Earlier today, the head of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry’s press-service Khikmet Gadzhiev said that they won’t stop their military actions until all Armenian soldiers leave the territory of Azerbaijan.
His exact words were: “In accordance with UN Security Council resolutions, Armenia must free all occupied territories, and provide complete territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Republic of Azerbaijan, recognized on international level”
We remind you that the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic hasn’t been officially recognized as a state, and because of its predominantly Armenian population, Azerbaijan’s officials don’t make a difference between the people in Karabakh and Armenia. Therefore, Azerbaijan has stated that if the army of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic doesn’t withdraw its positions (from its own country), they will continue the military actions. This makes it practically impossible to have a ceasefire agreement.
Azerbaijan didn’t stop there with their bizarre statements. They sent letters to the UN, EU and NATO, claiming that the Armenian army is constantly shelling civilians.
As a response, Armenia said that if the hostilities from the Azeri side don’t stop, they’ll recognize the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, and are currently in talks of signing a military cooperation deal with the breakaway republic.
In the meantime, the fighting hasn’t stopped and numerous reports come out with more and more victims. However, almost none of the reports have been confirmed.
Details to follow as the situation develops.
