Baghdad Designates Iraqi Kurdistan No-Fly Zone, Threatens To Down Any Aircraft Flying Over Region Without Permission

FILE IMAGE

Starting today the Iraqi government has closed airspace in its northern Kurdistan region to international flights.

According to statement released by the Iraqi government, the no-fly zone is in effect over an area officially controlled by the Kurdistan Regional Government including Sulaymaniyah, Erbil, and Dohuk.

The Iraqi Air Force has a right to shoot down any aircraft that is flying over this region without permission.

Iraq threatened to implement a no-fly zone in the Iraqi Kurdistan airspace after the Independence referendum, which took place on September 25.

Baghdad considers the referendum unconstitutional, and had previously issued an order surrender the control over the airports in Erbil and Sulaymaniyah to Baghdad.

Brother Ma

I support iraq but ths is crazy.it must be for internal consumption and face saving. Afterall,we know iraq gov can not fart without zionatousa permission.

dutchnational

Do not underestimate the Iraqi airforce with all of their 5 F16 planes and rookie pilots. Oh, one of them crashed last month in the US.

4 F16?

George King

I believe the Russians will have their backs concerning the air space. As for Israel invading Iraq, forget about it they are still licking their wounds from their invasion of Lebanon. If you mention Israel’s 200+ nukes again you will lose all credibility as Russia would retaliate in kind. The US at that point will slink away from the fray as well as NATO or what is left of it.

dutchnational

I am not talking about Israel invading Iraq at all. I am drawing the paralell to Russian troops entering Crimea.

George King

There is no parallel, Crimea was already hosting a Russian naval base (no invasion) which by the way the US wanted to convert to a US base of operations and had even taken bids for contracting the retrofit before Nuland and her cookies instigated ethnic cleansing.

goingbrokes

This is serious. Imagine a fleet of israeli planes and saudi planes arriving to enforce the new borders and troops too. It is unthinkable. That is why Iraqi govt needs to exert whatever authority it has.

dutchnational

What happens if Israel does a “Crimea” on Iraq : Acknowledges the refendum, supports a declaration of independence, recognises the new country all in one day and having a mutual defense treaty that same evening, sending planes that same night to an airbase in the KRG.

Just like Putin did in the Crimea. Maybe even send some “little green men”?

To paraphrase Erdogan : They will not come silently in the night ??

goingbrokes

False parallel. Crimeans are largely Russians and voted all but unanimously secede from Ukraine after the western backed fascist coup d’etat AND join Russia! Crimea has been a Russian area for a long time until Khrutshev (a Ukrainian) decided to “give” it to Ukraine Soviet Republic in 1953 I think it was. Putin assessed that if he did not protect Crimeans there would be massacres, as in Odessa. It was the decent thing to do. Kurds are trying to break off from an existing country with a legitimate government. Timing is everything and IF there was peace I might be sympathetic, and IF it wasn’t obvious that it is Israel that benefits from this primarily ( and not Kurds) I might support it. As it is, it is clearly globalist bankers plan to create a subservient client state, as well as sow further conflict in the region to benefit the MIC. Not to mention that USrael wants to attack Iran from their prospective client state. Kurds are being used again.

Bobo Voxar

read Ukrop constitution..Crimea never was a part of Ukraine… NEVER… i was AUTONOMOUS AREA-OBLAST with own gov and parliament …

dutchnational

Exact paralell.

Kurds are not arabs like crimeans were not ukrainians.

KRG voted all but unanimously against remaining in Iraq.

Kurdistan was “given” to Iraq by the UK and nobody can claim the ukrainian government and state are illegitimate.

The paralells are there for anybody to see and who does not see them, just does not want to see, which is perfectly all right by me as I do not care what you think, given the way you seem to think.

goingbrokes

Yes, it’s a false equation.

Crimeans did not set up or vote for an independent Crimea! They voted to re-join Russian Federation, as they are Russians. But Novorussia is a newly independent state, as Kurdistan apparently wants to be. Things have not gone so well for them, even though they only have a weak Ukraine to deal with. As they too are Russians they are supported by Russian Federation, and they share a long land border. Kurdistan is in a much weaker position, with three hostile powers bordering, and apparent allies (Israel and US) far away and have a track record of using alliances for private benefit and dropping “allies” as it suits them. (And please don’t mention Saddam, who was a CIA operative, or CWs which were supplied by US and NATO countries). Not a nice prospect!

Agree that borders go back to British Empire decision to draw them through Kurdish territories. It was a deliberate ploy by the BE, to set up the Kurds as potential agent-provocateurs for several countries simultaneously. This ploy is now being used by another Empire and its unacknowledged 51st State. I feel sorry for the Kurds.

As far as U legitimacy goes, it would take too long. But briefly, the post-coup government in Kiev is illegitimate on many counts. That is why the Crimean historic Russian traditions became such a burning issue the local population had to solve quickly.

Brother Ma

I was going to answer you about crimea, yet goingbrokes has said it better.

Brother Ma

I can not imagine iraq shooting down israel or saudi planes ever.i wish it would ,yet its uszio masters would never let it do so.

George King

Do you not think that Iraq does not seek separation from the Israel/US Empire? PMU’s state recognition not only in Iraq but in the coalition’s fighting the proxies of terrorist answers that question.

Brother Ma

I believe usa tolerates pmu for the moment.

Mountains

Iraq won’t do jack shit and even if they attempt it. Pesmerga can go all the way to Baghdad. Nobody will come to their assistance this time. Not the international community. The Kurds are way more professional fighters compared to the gathered rag-tag Iraqi militias who are there on low salaries.

I swear this is what people don’t realize how only about 10.000 ISIS could have opened Baghdad and all the way? they are really incompetent and if this war goes down this will be proven once again to everybody while the US, Nato and others won’t be doing the fighting for them

Rob

And Kurds has nothing to produce to international market so from where salaries come. The loan that Kurds takes that should be pay back tomorrow.

FlorianGeyer

There does not appear to be much Union in the US at the moment :)

Brother Ma

How about oil ,water and probably heaps of mineral riches in those mountains?

George King

Those belong to the nation state not the Kurds. Besides good luck trying to get anything exported from this land locked area through Iraq, Iran, Turkey and it appears the Kurds are going to force the same from Syria by their puppet masters. They will not allow another Israel in the ME among-est them.

dutchnational

Hi hi.

The “nation” does not exist. not in a federal state with different ethnicities where people feel being shia arab, sunni arab, turkman – shia or arab, and kurd or christian and wish all others to hell. They do not feel themselves to be Iraqi.

George King

Well being a nomadic tribe maybe they should break out the tents and move? China is Marxist as well maybe China? Wait China supports a unified Syria and Iraq, that won’t work.

wimroffel

Either the shoot down order was never given or the Iraqi’s have been frightened by the international reaction. Anyway, they are denying it now.

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/09/29/world/middleeast/iraq-kurds-referendum.html? “Producing his smartphone, Mr. Morad displayed a scan of what he described as a document that had come from a high official in Prime Minister Abadi’s office, issuing the shoot-down order to the Ministry of Defense in Baghdad. Officials in Mr. Abadi’s office said that the document was a forgery, and that the official who supposedly had signed it was a retiree with no authority.”

Langaniso Mhlobo

Declare no fly zone and state of emergency over puppet Kurds living zones.
