Azerbaijan continues to struggle with accepting the reality of the growing Turkish influence in the country. During the recent war in Karabakh, Baku was for weeks denying the presence of Turkish forces, including warplanes, in Azerbaijan, but then was forced to admit this fact.
Now, Baku is denying reports about the creation of 3 Turkish bases inside the country, which likely means that the work to do this is ongoing.
On January 8, Haqqin.az reported that three Turkish bases in the cities of Ganja, Gabala and Lankaran. However, the report was swiftly deleted and the Defense Ministry of Azerbaijan released an official statement denying the establishment of the base.
Such a close attention to such reports demonstrates the concern of the Azerbaijani leadership that became dependent on the Turkish assistance as a result of its push in Karabakh. Now, when the time has come to pay the bills, it seems that Baku is not very happy to do this.

NATO “bases” close to the Russian border, allows Russia to take care of this mosquito baes expeditiously without much effort. London, Paris or Washington are not going to endanger themselves by trying to defend these bases if the stakes go nuclear. It is unclear if Washington would burn itself trying to defend Europe.
