The Russian military continues assault around the Ukrainian stronghold in Avdeevka in the Donetsk People’s Republic. The pace of advance of Russian reportedly decreased in recent days, while heavy artillery duels, drone attacks and airstrikes are pounding Ukrainian positions in the town and on its outskirts.
Less then a week ago, Russian forces went into offensive simultaneously in the northern and southern directions, surrounding the Ukrainian military group in Avdeevka. In the short period of time, the Russian military achieved some tactical results.
In the south, Russian forces reached the outskirts of Severnoe. The Russian military has also gained a foothold on the southern outskirts of Avdeevka, where Russian groups recently advanced from their positions near Spartak and crossed the railway. Clashes are ongoing in the forest area, where Russian forces are storming the fortified enemy strongholds.
In the north, they crossed the railway and reached the village of Berdychi. As a result of the Russian offensive, the main road used for military supplies of the AFU from Orlovka to Avdeevka came under Russian fire control, and communication with the Ukrainian group in the town was complicated.

Russian advance is slowed down by the heavily fortified Ukrainian lines of defence. There are numerous minefields under Ukrainian fire control, forest areas with fortified trenches and numerous large concrete strongholds. The Russian military has already increased the intensity of artillery shelling, airstrikes, bombings and drone strikes, that are pounding the Ukrainian military nonstop. The escalation has already allowed to complicate Ukrainian military supplies to Avdeevka, but this is yet to lead to any strategic results. The Russian military is unlikely to launch a large ground offensive and storm the industrial town of Avdeevka in the nearest future. The threat of creating a cauldron will force the Ukrainian military command to send additional forces and large amount of supplies to the area, where they will be destroyed by Russian fire.
