Ukrainian defense in the Donbass is crumbling. Three large fortresses of the Ukrainian army are falling under control of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. The doomed Ukrainian garrisons are forced to resist in the cauldrons in Velyka Novoselka, Chasov Yar and on their last strongholds in Toretsk in order to please the political aspirations of Zelensky’s regime.
The battle for the strategically important city of Cahsov Yar is on its final stage. The Russian army is in control of more than 60% of the city, including the most important strongholds and beneficial positions.
Last week, Russian 331st Guards Parachute Regiment of the 98th Guards Airborne Division completed the mop up operations at the refractory plant. The footage confirmed Russian control of its last fourth workshop.
Heavy battles for the industrial zone and its outskirts lasted for weeks. In December, Russian forces broke through Ukrainian defense and advanced in the Northern (Severny) district surrounding the Ukrainian garrison hiding at the plant.
The large industrial facility was turned into the key stronghold of the Ukrainian that allowed to held control of the entire city. Now, it is lost.
Russian victory at the refractory plant weakened Ukrainian defense in the city even more. In recent days, they reportedly took the fool control of the Northern district located north of the railway road. According to preliminary reports, the New Northern (Novoseverny) and Desyatya districts located nearby north and west of the railway station also came under the full Russian control.
Battles are ongoing in the Zapadny (Western) district located south of the railway station. These streets are strategically important for the Ukrainian garrison because of the roads that lead away from the city but the Armed Forces of Ukraine have no reinforced strongholds to resist there and this area is likely to come unde Russian control soon.
The main stronghold of the resisting Ukrainian garrison is the center of the city, where they are hiding in the administrative and apartment buildings. Russian bloody assaults do not stop there and their control of the refractory plant will facilitate the attacks.
In the south of the city, Ukrainian forces are in control of the Shevchenko district located on the southern outskirts and separated from the city center by the railway. Russian forces are also yet to repel the enemy from the forest area around the local central lake.
Russian assault on Chasov Yar that began in the spring of 2024 and is gaining momentum. The Ukrainian garrison lost its main strongholds and has nothing left but to hold defense of several buildings in the center surrounded from several directions. The Ukrainian command does not allow its forces to retreat because Kiev has to show its ability to fight and please its Western patrons.
The Ukrainian military has only weak positions left on the outskirts and in the villages near the city of Chasov Yar. After its victory in Chasov Yar, the Russian army will approach the town of Konstantinovka from the north, while Russian units are completing the mop up operations on the outskirts of Toretsk and will soon surround Konstantinovka from the east.
