On December 1, clashes between Russian forces and units loyal to the Kiev regime continued in the sector of Bakhmut (Artemovsk). Following the recent advances, the Russians are attacking positions of pro-Kiev troops in the areas of Opitnoe, Podgornoe and around Kurdymovka. Currently, Bakhmut is in fact isolated only from the western and northwestern directions. Nonetheless, it remains under the permanent threat of the full encirclement if at one moment Kiev’s forces defense collapse in northern or southern sectors. Thus, it remains the main priority of the ongoing local advance of the Russian military.

Summing up developments of the previous days, it is possible to conclude that the contact line was fully stabilized in the sectors of Kherson, Kharkov and Zaporozhie. The most active military developments are taking place in the western countryside of Donetsk city and around Bakhmut (Artemovsk). In these conditions, the direction of Ugledar remains a less priority target for Russian forces after the liberation of Pavlovka. The advance there is likely complicated by the need to storm heights surrounding Ugledar itself.
This fully corresponds with the recent statement of the Russian Defense Ministry (December 1, 2020):
In Donetsk direction, as a result of the offensive actions of Russian troops, the settlement of Andreevka (Donetsk People’s Republic) has been completely liberated. More than 40 Ukrainian servicemen, two tanks, and five armoured fighting vehicles have been destroyed.
In Kupyansk direction, the enemy’s attempt to attack in the direction of the settlement of Kuzemovka (Lugansk People’s Republic) was thwarted by preemptive artillery fire, heavy flamethrower systems, and army aviation strikes. More than 60 Ukrainian servicemen, six armoured fighting vehicles, and four cars were destroyed.
In Krasny Liman direction, a company tactical group of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was hit by fire in the area of Stelmakhovka (Lugansk People’s Republic). In addition, artillery fire and army aviation strikes foiled the enemy’s attempt to attack in the direction of the settlement of Chervonopopovka (Lugansk People’s Republic). The enemy’s losses during the day in this direction amounted to up to 20 Ukrainian servicemen killed and wounded, one tank, and four armoured fighting vehicles.
In South Donetsk direction, the AFU units unsuccessfully tried to counterattack the positions of Russian troops in the areas of the settlements of Novomikhailovka and Vladimirovka (Donetsk People’s Republic). As a result of the fire damage and actions of the Russian troops, all counterattacks were repulsed. The enemy has been driven back to its initial positions. More than 30 Ukrainian personnel, four armoured fighting vehicles, and three pickup trucks were eliminated.
Operational-Tactical and Army Aviation, Missile Troops and Artillery annihilated three points of temporary deployment of units of foreign mercenaries close to Slavyansk (Donetsk People’s Republic), as well as 85 artillery units in firing positions, manpower and military equipment in 162 districts.
During the counter-battery fighting close to Orekhovatka (Donetsk People’s Republic), an American HIMARS MLRS launcher with ammunition and crew was engaged. Two AN/TPQ-37 American counter-battery radar stations have been destroyed near Krivaya Luka and Markovo (Donetsk People’s Republic). Three stores of rocket and artillery weaponry and ammunition of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were destroyed in the areas of Volnoye Pole (Donetsk People’s Republic) and Orekhov (Zaporozhye region).
Russian air defence systems shot down three Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles during the day in the areas of Zhitlovka, Chervonopopovka (Lugansk People’s Republic) and the city of Donetsk. Moreover, eight HIMARS and Olkha MLRS were intercepted in the areas of Svatovo (Lugansk People’s Republic), Novoye (Zaporozhye region), Zeleny Gai, and Zhdanovka (Donetsk People’s Republic).
In total, 334 airplanes and 177 helicopters, 2,592 unmanned aerial vehicles, 391 air defence missile systems, 6,930 tanks and other armoured combat vehicles, 905 combat vehicles equipped with MLRS, 3,642 field artillery cannons and mortars, as well as 7,431 units of special military equipment have been destroyed during the special military operation.
Therefore, the most likely scenario of the coming week is the continuation of the slow advance of Russian forces towards Bakhmut amid much less intense fighting on other parts of the contact line. The direction of Ugleadar will also remain a hot point but it is unlikely that the Russians will be able to capture the town without involvement of additional reinforcements. At the same time, the Russian Armed Forces sill experience the lack of manpower on the contact line (preparations of reinforcements as part of the partial mobilization are yet to be finished), but enjoy the advantage in fire power. Moreover, missile strikes on military and energy infrastructure of the Kiev regime also have an important strategic effect. If the systematic work in this direction continues, the impact of the destruction of these facilities will be easily observed in the mid-term developments.
If one summarizes on actions of the Russian leadership in previous months, it’s possible to suppose that Moscow is ready for a prolonged conflict on the territory of former Ukraine (turned into a failed state by Washington & Co) and its actions are aimed at achieving the declared strategic tasks in the way that will require a limited amount of resources. Roughly, this approach may be declared as a strategy of suffocation of the Kiev regime and its armed forces pushing it towards conditions in which they will have no option but to accept terms and conditions proposed by Russians or cease to exist.
It’s good to see the latest batch of Polish burials in a Polish military cemetery. Circa, 700 Polish mercs ( NATO soldiers) are now ‘at rest’. I understand your frustration about the ongoing Russian military campaign in Ukraine. Russia wasted so many soldiers and material and still that little Ukraine country is resisting and doesn t wants to hand over their country to the communists. Russia even after nearly 1 year of fighting can t get into Bakhmut, and therefore now resorts to shooting missiles onto the ukrainian civilian population and civil infrastructure, hence getting themselves deeper and deeper into war-crimes, for all the world to see (same as the US always does).
But still Ukrainian remain bolt and keep on resisting and even advancing against the invaders. This of course devastates the russian conscripts morale and their mother know that most of them’ll likely not come back from the meatgrinder, Putin put them into by tsending them to Ukraine. Ukrainians know communism very well. They simple do not want to be enslaved and are thinking US support and US will give freedom to them when in fact both sides are enslaving them.
