Biden Plans To Announce End To US Support For Saudi-led Coalition In Yemen

US President Joe Biden will announce on February 4 an end to US support for the Saudi-led military offensive in Yemen, the president’s national security adviser Jake Sullivan told a news briefing.

Sullivan noted that the new policy will not extend to offensive operations taken by the US against Al Qaeda’s affiliate in the Arab Peninsula.

“It [the policy] does not extend to actions against AQAP, which are actions we undertake in service of protecting the homeland and protecting American interests in the region and allies and partners,” CNBC quoted Sullivan as saying.

The move would fulfill a campaign pledge by Biden. Recent reports revealed plans by top aides of Biden to pursue the diplomacy to end the conflict in Yemen.

The US military has been supporting Saudi-led operations against the Houthis (Ansar Allah) in Yemen since day one. The Kingdom and its allies received intelligence and logistic support from the US.

It remains unclear if the Biden administration will also terminate arms deals to Saudi Arabia and its allies. Last month, the US imposed a temporary freeze on billions of dollars in weapons sales to Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

As for now, Saudi-led military operations in Yemen are still in full force. A number of airstrikes and ceasefire violations were reported in the last 24 hours.

  • The Liaison and Coordination Officers’ Operations Room (loyal to Ansar Allah) reported 209 ceasefire violations in al-Hudaydah during the past 24 hours.
  • On February 3, Saudi-led coalition warplanes conducted airstrike on the Haradh area.
  • On February 3, Saudi-led coalition warplanes conducted airstrike on the Zaher area.
  • On February 3, Saudi-led coalition warplanes conducted airstrike on the Boqa’ area.

The end of the US support could force Saudi Arabia and its allies to rethink their war on Yemen. However, it is still too early to assume that Washington will stick to its promises.

I doubt Biden will quit from the war in Yemen. That is way too generous wishful thinking. In a Zelensky fashion, Biden will say that he “stopped supporting Saudi Arabia” to the public, while behind the back of the mainstream media, he will in fact continue supporting the Saudis. And besides direct support from Washington, the deep state American corporations will support the Saudis as well.

Maybe…or else, the Houthis have done such a bang-up job in the fighting that even Pentagon idiots realize the hopelessness.

Remember, Houthis have the ability to disrupt the entire Saudi oil industry as things stand today, and that industry supports the dollar.

So a possibility: US financial weakness is causing a shift of policy to one of reducing risks (?). Thus it may be in US interests to end war?

Al Balog

I hope that’s the case, and if so that would be a huge victory for the Houthis.

Under the first few weeks of Biden, the US debt is still skyrocketing, and things there are getting worse on a social/political level. The Houthis would be an additional headache for the US hegemony.

” Remember, Houthis have the ability to disrupt the entire Saudi oil industry as things stand today, and that industry supports the dollar. ” The why don’t they ? Why not go all out and destroy it completely causing the dollar to collapse and take out the Saudis in the process ?

Certainly there are intermittent attacks every month or two, and some of these strikes have been very successful. I am not privy to stockpiles or political decision making on behalf of Yemen by Houthis…but the threat is evident.

This will only expand the war and lead to probably a genocide in Yemen as response. Either way whether they escalate it or not this shit won’t go anywhere from the Houthis they chose to rise from a bad place geolocation wise

Johnny B. Allan

Saudis ain’t leaving anywhere this is there home don’t ever forget that part

Jens Holm

He didnt say so iddijot

Probably KSA wants to withdraw from Yemen and Pentagon was one step forward, or backward.

Jens Holm

Maybee. I see all that high tech stuff makes no winner. A minimum would be to make a new analyse. Here I think a withdraw is an option too, but its also about face.

NATO toys are too expensive for hunting few flipfloppers with skirts. In Yugoslavia they had to hit the country infrastructure to make $1 million Tomahawks worth… Since Houthis don’t need infrastructure, NATO basically have no means to fight with such thing.

With or without US support, the war will continue. This announcement by the demented one in the White House is only for consumption by the media whores and uninformed, misinformed, naive, gullible little insects who can’t think for themselves and have to be told what they should know and think. Will the billions of dollars in military equipment sales from the US to the Saudis continue? Absolutely. Money and natural resources is what motivates the rat Kosher chicken hawks in Washington, DC.

Jens Holm

Ask them to replace Biden with You. You seemes to know better then him :)

Proud Hindu

Biden will redeploy all the us forces near russia border.

Jens Holm

Yes unarmed, and the will ask for vodka to help up the Russian shekel:)

Proud Hindu

A$$hole stfu i cant understand you

Potato Man

Fun fact, they never fuking said they support Saudi-led coalition in Yemen out in open. They even ignore reports of American jets bombing Yemeni civilians….for fuking years. What the fuk they saying is, they wouldn’t use their military… but fully support Saudis/UAE and Wahhabi terrorists in Yemen.

Assad must stay

at least trump was honest in his support for saudis, not that i agree with it at all, but who knows what the hell biden means by this, i guess its better than saying they will continue supporting them

Furkan Sahin

Trump just want war against Houthis he is traitor
