Unable to advance on the front, Kiev forces continue to shell residential areas in the Russian region of Belgorod and the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR).
Kiev forces fired more than 70 different munitions at Belgorod over the past 24 hours, Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said on his Telegram channel on October 5.
“In the Valuysky district, the enemy fired 36 shells from a Grad multiple launch rocket system at the village of Borki, three artillery shells at the village of Peschanka, four mortar shells at the village of Novopetrovka, eight artillery shells at the village of Verigovka and seven artillery shells at the village of Dubrovka. There were no casualties or damage in any of the settlements of the district,” the governor wrote.
Gladkov added that two mortar shells were fired and two shrapnel munitions were dropped from a drone at Murom in the Shebekinsky district. Kiev forces also attacked the village with a kamikaze drone. The attacks resulted in no casualties. However, one of the communications infrastructure facilities was damaged.
The village of Novaya Tavolzhanka also came under mortar fire five times, according to the governor, who didn’t report any casualties or materia losses.
A shrapnel munition was also dropped from a drone in the village of Sereda without causing any losses whatsoever, Gladkov said.
“In the Belgorod district, the village of Zhuravlevka came under artillery fire two times. There were no casualties or damage. After the work of air defense in the village of Shishino, the following damage was recorded: the windows of one of the private houses were shattered, four cars were damaged. A car in the village of Sevryukovo was also damaged,” the governor said.
According to Gladkov, the outskirts of the village of Plotvyanka in the Volokonovsky district was also shelled with mortars twice.
In addition, Russian forces in the Graivoronsky district shot down two drones over the village of Novostroyevka-Vtoraya. There were no casualties or material losses.
During the same period, Kiev forces carried out a total of 35 shelling attacks targeting the territory of Donetsk, according to the DPR mission to the Joint Center for Control and Coordination of issues related to Ukrainian war crimes.
“Over the past 24 hours, the mission reported 35 shelling attacks by Ukrainian armed groups,” the mission said in a statement. “A total of 118 munitions of various types have been fired.”
Ukraine stepped up attacks on Russian territory in recent days. On October 4, the Russian military foiled an attempt by Ukrainian commandos to land in the Crimean Peninsula and shot down 31 suicide drones over the regions of Belgorod, Bryansk and Kursk.
Kiev forces are currently attempting to break through Russian defenses before winter brings their counteroffensive into a halt. Weather conditions will worsen within a few weeks. With the current rate of losses, Kiev attempts appear to be doomed to fail.
