Recently, Boko Haram terrorists have carried out attacks on positions of government forces near the villages of Baga, Doron-Baga, Kross Kawwa, Bunduran, Kekeno and Kukawa in Nigeria’s northeastern state of Borno. Government forces responded to this activity by deploying additional troops and conducting air strikes on Boko Haram positions.
On December 30, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) said the Air Task Force (ATF) of Operation LAFIYA DOLE has neutralised several Boko Haram terrorists by striking their hideout near Baga. The military is also going to relocate resodents of Baga to other settlements in an attempt to get more freedom to bomb Boko Haram hideouts in the area. This plan was announced on the same day by by the Deputy Director Public Relations in charge of the counter-insurgency operations in the North-East, Operation Lafiya Dole, Col. Onyema Nwachukwu.
“Operation Lafiya Dole troops in conjunction with the Borno State Government are working towards relocating the residents of Baga to safer locations in view of the ongoing military operations in the area,” the statement stressed adding that there are no reasons for people in Bama, Dikwa and Monguno to make a similar step.
