Brazilian Navy Received Multi-Purpose Helicopter Carrier From U.K.

Source: naval.com.br

The Brazilian Navy has received the multi-purpose helicopter carrier HMS Ocean (L12) from the British Navy.

The helicopter carrier was commissioned on 29 June in the UK. In The Brazilian Navy it will have another name – the PHM Atlantico (A140). The warship was purchased by Brazail under a $98.76 million worth contract reached by the sides on February 19.

Since then, the ship had been undergoing maintenance work by Babcock and BAE Systems. The PHM Atlantico is 203.43 m long and displaces 21.578 tonnes.

Poor choice of vendor. The British Navy is barely functional. But then who is Brazil going to fight?

Daniel Castro

Huge coast, need to patrol to catch those pesky submarines.

I don’t give a fuck for football, I couldn’t care less for this Neymar shit.

Wise Gandalf

i onle lightened the atmopsphere :)

Sinbad2

And fly supplies to communities isolated by disasters.

You can call me Al

Nothing to do with that, so be quiet.

It is a bloody disgrace that we sold one of our designed ships for the RN for a loss – “to save money, in the budget”, pathetic, disgraceful and traitorous…… meanwhile, we give 12-13 billion pounds to Foreign Countries or maybe piss them up the wall.

We are an embarrassment and our politicians need to be culled.

King Tudor777

Brazil will do nothing with this, it’s only a propaganda tool of the government in order to convince someone that they didn’t abandon ou defense and army. All lies, only the military dictatorship cared about it. We don’t need it, we have more important things to care about. I guess it was already scheduled for some time, but the last war we needed real combat ships was in Paraguay 150 years ago. Stupidity from this sick government and politicians.

Daniel Castro

“the last war we needed real combat ships was in Paraguay 150 years ago.”

Ships are not needed for war, they are needed for peace. One of the reasons the British first, and USA later, managed to have complete supremacy on the seas aroudn the world was the demise of the portuguese and spanish empires, we let them take control of Atlantic ocean unchalenged, and they used this to create the anglo-zionist empire.

Brazil has an historical duty to project power over its shores, to create an access denial area capable of chalenging any country with delusions of world supremacy, however we don’t fulfil our duty, and that’s why they keep fucking around un the southern Atlantic. We could offer an alternative to western african countries to relief them from western imperialism, yet we do nothing.

Brazil needs to arise as world power, not for amibtion, it is a matter of survival. There is no true sovereign country without military power.

And for propaganda our government don’t need war ships, all it needs si to buy propaganda time in Globo channel, brazilian people couldn’t care less about important things like military power.

King Tudor777

I would agree with these measures if we had a real power project regarding our seas, but we don’t. We have more important things, but I agree that we need to project our power over the Southern Atlantic, to show NATO that they North Atlantic Treaty Organization must restrict itself to the North Atlantic. We also need to rebuild our Air Force, and we can’t do this by buying Swedish planes, we need something better, in coordination with the Navy project.

Daniel Castro

We need to start somewhere, we should make our own airplanes, more important, to make our own jet engines, but even if we start the project now it will be more than 10 years at least to have our planes, so Gripen-NG is at least something, the same for this ship.

Sinbad2

Moving into new fields takes time(decades), and money. It requires a non partizan commitment from government to support the industry until it is self sustaining. There is a reason why only a handful companies in the whole world make jet engines. Start with something easy, like computer chips.

Daniel Castro

Brazil was aboutto start production of its own jet engine back in the 70s when the color rev… aham… the democratic movement started.

We were about to start mass production of our own MBT when Fernando Henrique Cardoso, Soros pawn, became president and imedatiely stopped the project breaking one of our major military industries.

Sinbad2

Yeah Australia had an aircraft company back then. A certain major power, likes to eliminate competition in certain areas?

Daniel Castro

The same guy almost delivered our space rocket lauch base to the muricans on a platter, the best location in the world for rocket launch.

He brankrupted several national companies, public and private, gave the public mining company to Soros for free, etc. What happened in Russia under Yeltsin also happened here under Cardoso, it is sad we never had our Putin.

But if we ever want to be a real country we will need airplane and rocket industries of our own.

Sinbad2

Australia had arranged to buy some nukes from Britain, back in the early 60’s, the US stopped the sale. 2 Australian scientists discovered a way of enriching uranium using a laser. It seems it’s much more efficient than centrifuges. Australia sold the technology and the scientists to the US for a pittance. The US has buried the technology, to protect its current enrichment industry.

Daniel Castro

And we were about to develop nuclear weapons.

Sinbad2

A ship like this is useful for civil disaster work, it’s not all about war.

AM Hants

Remember old Fearless, who the Ocean replaced. Did not hold onto her long, now did we? How many old admirals in the navy? How many admirals do you get for each RN ship/boat? How many civil servants in the MoD? How many serving military personnel left?

Soon we will be relying on Corporal Jones and Captain Mannering to lead on the frontline. What could possibly go wrong?

If we wish to be. Law of attraction, if enough believe.

hahahaha – thank you, you made me laugh on a totally s.h.i.t day.

AM Hants

Take care. Hope the day got better.

Barba_Papa

Gotta pay for those two big carriers. And Trident and its replacement. Until all that remains of the Royal Navy are two big carriers, with some hyper expensive F-35’s on top. And three to four nuclear SLBM carrying submarines. That’s all that will remain of Britannia rules the waves.

Daniel Castro

In the end we got the only practical ship of UK for a bargain… lol

AM Hants

Remember when she was first commissioned. Nato not happy, as they needed her. Not many amphibious ships lurking around Nato member nations, that can move a variety of things.

Sinbad2

The RN might be barely functional, but the British have a long history of building ships. Back in my day the RAN had British and American warships. The American ships were more modern, had more bells and whistles, but were not as sturdy. Australia got a Swedish company to design and build submarines for the RAN, they were that scary, they had trouble crewing them. The old British subs they replaced never had that problem.

AM Hants

Not any more. We have got rid of our ship builders, in order to send orders to South Korea. The asset strippers so came to town and shut it all down. We still build submarines. Scotland still has a ship building industry, that helped with the aircraft carriers, together with the French ship builders.

Wise Gandalf

The British Navy is barely functional

because shares out the ships :))

Peter Moy

A real bargain for Brazil at $98.76 million (USD). That’s about the cost of ONE F-35 Lightning II fighter.

Siegfried

Yeah, this was exactly what Brazil missed the most :))

AM Hants

We have got no amphibious ships, or aircraft carriers in working order or with planes to go with them. Never mind, we do have one Rib left, that will go from Portsmouth to the Isle of Wight, plus, the Warrior plus Victory in dry dock.

US Navy must be so proud.
