On the evening of April 17, the western part of Bakhmut was inflamed by large fire. According to preliminary reports, the Ukrainian military positions were hit by Russian high-precision FAB-500 bombs with planning and correction modules.
Presumably, at least one strike hit the fortified area of the Ukrainian 241st Territorial Defense Brigade near Khromovo and the motocross track in Bakhmut. Another strike reportedly hit the intersection of the roads used for transfer of Ukrainian ammunition near the Eighth pond in the west of the city.
The remaining Ukrainian grouping in Bakhmut is massively concentrated in the small area under their control in the west of Bakhmut. Strikes of Russian aviation with heavy bombs will inflict more heavy losses to the AFU and destroy the military equipment transferred to the city. The use of heavy bombs will speed up the liberation of the city and minimize the losses of Russian ground troops.
hopefully RuAF will increase use of these glide bombs in following months, they are a real game changer /if only they had hundreds of these last year…
Exactly. Ukros almost have no means to destroy them, they rarely even detect them. Instead of inefficient WW2 style low attitude bombing vulnerable to manpads, now Russian bombers are safe and bombs are launched far from ukrainian AD. They only have very few remaining S-300s, also probably some Patriots but they are static and vulnerable, reserved for Kiev and Western regions. There are Nato systems like French Crotale but so far they failed to make any impact, they’re short range and can’t cover such a large frontline nor they have them in large numbers like russian pantsyrs. Not even Nato countries actually posses many AD systems, their biggest weakness but american doctrine is air superiority so they don’t expect to need AD.
So if Russia produce these in massive numbers they will absolutely wreck ukros. Russians already have plenty of bombs, they only need additional kit, propulsion and guidance. Not that difficult or expensive, Chinese recently exported bunch of similar type bombs to Africa. Not sure if Chinese are actually helping Russia with these secretly, perhaps. But in any case bad news for ukros.
They should just level the damn place. First with Thermobaric bombs, next FAB-500 bombs, Followed up by heavy flamethrower TOS-1A, After that hit them with a ton of mortars, Finally let the tanks roll in followed by infantry. Keep doing this until they capitulate. Day in and day out, non stop. No mercy.
