On May 30, the Defence Staff of the Donetsk People’s Republic confirmed that the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation and the DPR People’s militia took control over the villages of Dibrova and Stary Caravan.
After the town of Krasny Liman came under the DPR control, Russian-led forces continued their advance to the west towards the city of Slavyansk, which is one of the main strongholds of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the region. LINK, LINK
By now, DPR and Russian troops have approached the city of Raygorodok, which is located 12 kilometers from Slavyansk. The Ukrainian positions in the area have been shelled by the artillery.
Clashes continue on the northern bank of the Seversky Donets River, and Russian-led forces have are yet to cross the river. The bridge in the area was destroyed by the retreating AFU units more than a week ago.

The DPR says that they have captured Staryi Karavan & Dibrova & are advancing towards Slavyansk. Earlier, shelling had been reported in Raigorodok. The railway bridge north of Raigorodok is destroyed, the other one is at least damaged. There’s a smaller one nearby and Russian tanks have just crossed it. SLAVA ROSSIYA!

Severodonetsk advancing. Voronovo and Borivske under LPR control, areas in the north of the city under their control too. It seems the Ukrainians say they won’t repeat the Mariupol scenario yet they keep retreating towards the industrial and thick highrise areas. To not repeat the Mariupol scenario, they would have to keep retreating before they are encircled again (if / when bakhmut and siversk roads are properly cut off and areas around secured, and Belgorovka is crossed – which may soon if the AFU deploy some of their forces there to reinforce Severodonetsk or Lisichansk)
The river makes everything complicated. it’s the only thing helping the AFU a bit now. That and some areas that are under their control that have high ground the RU havent taken yet, like near Vrubovka, Toshkivka and Nirkove
Also, if they manage to take Bohorodochnye, that means Svyatohirsk Studenok pocket is bye bye, they either retreat themselves or else all die or become prisoners. Direct attacks on Svyatohirsk right now are pointless with the east flank of Liman secured.

The Russians are pushing the Ukrainians back far enough that they can’t use artillery to stop the pontoon bridges from being built and are also seeking out and destroying the remaining Ukranian artillery units. The tide is turning, and the Ukrainians are using their best units as fodder.

Technical question- I’m no expert on modern Russian tanks, but I know a design feature of Soviet tanks was the ability to snorkel across rivers without bridges. Is this a modern feature and, if so, is it being used? I’ve read it didn’t always work well, like during a huge exercise in the 50s-60s period when they had vehicles trying to ford a wide river and a lot of them floundered in the current and had trouble climbing the steep bank on the other side. They had to pre-pave the riverbed to ensure the exercise came off looking good. Anyone have facts for current ops?
