Ukrainian saboteurs near the Grayvoron border region
On May 23, the Russian Defence Ministry reported that Ukrainian saboteurs who attacked the Belgorod region the day before were defeated. LINK
The remnants of the saboteurs were “thrown back from the Belgorod region to the territory of Ukraine.” During the operation, 70 saboteurs were killed, 4 IFVs and 5 pickups were destroyed.

On May 22, several Ukrainian sabotage and reconnaissance groups crossed the Russian border and attacked the villages in the region. The legal regime of the counter-terrorist operation was introduced in the Belgorod region.
According to preliminary reports, about ten armored vehicles and a group of infantry of the Armed Forces of Ukraine took part in the attack.
In total, Ukrainian troops managed to advance up to 8 kilometers deep into Russian territory, moving through the villages. They were stopped on the outskirts of the town of Grayvoron. On the evening of May 22, Russian forces pushed the saboteurs out from the villages of Gora-Podol and Glotovo towards the border. Ukrainian saboteurs gained a stronghold in the area of the border village of Kozinka.
The Russian security operation was complicated by the densely populated area, the villages are located close to each other and there were still some civilians in their houses. That’s why Russian servicemen could not use heavy weapons against the Ukrainians who were traditionally using civilians as a human shield. At night, intensity of the clashes significantly decreased.

At night, Ukrainian forces attacked the Belgorod region from the air. Several drones dropped explosive devices on an administrative building in Borisovka, on private houses in Grayvoron, and reportedly on the FSB building in Belgorod. As a result of the attacks, no one was wounded.
On the morning of May 23, Governor of the Russian Belgorod region reported that the mop up operation continued in the Grayvoron urban district. The number of victims from among the civilians grew up. At least, 12 civilians were wounded as a result of the shelling. Including a deputy head of the city district administration, who was wounded on May 22 after three MLRS missiles were fired by the AFU at the Grayvoron administration building.
The Ukrainian attack on the ground was accompanied by the constant shelling of the Russian border villages. According to the governor, over the past day, the Belgorod district was shelled 15 times, a drone was shot down in the village of Nikolskoye,Ukrainian artillery shelled the village of Zhuravlevka with 14. Borisovsky district came under fire three times. Two explosive devices were dropped from drones. The village of Stary Khutor of Valuysky city district came under mortar fire, a total of five shells were fired.
Golovchino, Antonovka, Kozinka, Spodaryusheno, Gora Podol, Glotovo, Zamostye, Bezymeno, Zarechye, Grayvoron, Mokraya Orlovka, Novostroevka came under fire since the morning of May 23 in the Grayvoronsky urban district. The fire is conducted from MLRS, mortars, drones.
From the military point of view, the attack on the border villages was senseless. There were no military facilities to be captured.
