Units of the Russian “Center” grouping have broken through Ukrainian defenses west of Pokrovsk, reaching the outskirts of Serhiivka. The advance has cut off the Ukrainian garrison in Novopavlivka, with fierce fighting ongoing for control of key heights in the area. Meanwhile, Russian troops advanced in the Kharkiv region’s Staritsa area and forests southwest of Liman, capturing positions and consolidating their hold on Volchanskie Khutora. Heavy fighting continues in the Kupiansk sector for Kondrashivka, Tyshchenkivka, and within Kupiansk city limits, while the front near Konstantynivka remains complex around Chasiv Yar and the Kleban-Byk Reservoir.
In the Sumy sector, Russian forces are advancing rapidly across the Sumy and Krasnopillia districts. The bridgehead on the left bank of the Haichur River in the Dobropillia sector is expanding successfully, with units of the “Vostok” grouping capturing part of the “Bairak” botanical reserve and threatening AFU supply routes in the Pryluky area. Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico has described calls from Great Britain and France to send troops to Ukraine as provocative.
Dnipropetrovsk-Pokrovsk Sector
Units of the Russian “Center” grouping of forces are advancing west of Pokrovsk while repelling counterattacks north of Kotlyne. North of Lenino, Molodetske, and Udachne, Russian assault groups advanced northeast of the mine. They reached Matyushyn Gully near the Serhiivka road and crossed it from the east, effectively marking the start of combat in Serhiivka. The Russians also advanced along the border in the Horodska gully area towards Novooleksandrivka.
Intensive fighting continues along the Novopodhorodne–Novo-Nikolayivka line. In the Novopavlivka area, Russian units are capturing strongpoints on the heights near the western outskirts of the settlement while advancing from the south. They advanced to the road to Ivanivka in the area of the airfield and to the northeast of it. There was also an advance in the western part of Novopavlivka, which blocked off the southern exit to the west and southeast of the cemetery.
In the northern part of Novopavlivka, Russian assault groups captured the exit onto the T-04-28 road leading to the Mezheva settlement in the Tsentralna Street area. The Mezheva garrison is now in a state of operational isolation, facilitated by the terrain. There are ongoing engagements at strongpoints and positions on the heights north of Ivanivka.
Ukrainian POW
Russian troops maintain control of the Rodynske settlement and are advancing gradually westward. Small groups of Ukrainian fighters remain in Rodynske and periodically infiltrate the Myrnohrad and Pokrovsk settlements.
In the Kotlyne area, Russian units still control the village. However, advancing northward through the farmland is difficult due to well-fortified positions and established logistics.
North of Udachne, near the “Pokrovska” mine, Ukrainian troops remain present. As a result of counterattacks, small areas of territory periodically change hands.
Dobropillia Sector
In the northern part of the salient, Russian units are advancing northward. They are advancing from the Sofiyivka settlement towards Novopavlivka. Meanwhile, Toretske is being struck by artillery fire, as fortified positions have been established in its quarries.
From Shakhove, units are advancing toward Kucheriv Yar and putting intense pressure on the quarry-protected positions in the village. The height differential and the fortified positions in the forested area and quarries are significantly hindering the advance.
There is also ongoing fighting in the Novoye Shakhove area. Most of the village is under Russian control, but well-fortified Ukrainian positions remain to the west, complicating the holding of the area and any further advance.
The situation in the area surrounding the settlements of Sukhetske and Suvorovo is complicated by the logistics system established by the Ukrainian command. To advance westward, these supply routes must first be cut. A railway line runs alongside a tree line containing dugouts and trenches between the settlements of Rodynske and Dorozhnianka, creating additional difficulties.
Konstantynivka Sector
The situation in the area around Konstantynivka remains complex. The western outskirts of Chasiv Yar and the banks of the Kleban-Byk Reservoir are zones of active combat, with assault groups from both sides operating there.
Recently, footage appeared online indicating the presence of Ukrainian units in Pleshcheivka. The tree lines to the west of this settlement are being used for counterattacks, though neither side has stable control over them. It is likely that small groups of infantry periodically infiltrate the village.
However, it is not feasible for Ukrainian units to mount an offensive further towards Nelepivka across the Kryvyi Torets River given the active use of drones. Such groups quickly lose combat capability due to supply shortages and frequent attacks.
There has been no continuous front line in this sector for a long time. The forward edge consists of a series of often-isolated strongpoints with a “grey zone” between them. Therefore, it will only be possible to completely secure the vicinity of Pleshcheivka after full control has been established over the higher northern bank of the Kleban-Byk Reservoir.
Slaviansk Sector
Russian forces have advanced successfully in Ilyichevka in this sector, systematically displacing Ukrainian units to the opposite bank of the Siverskyi Donets River. The control zone between the Platonivka and Reznikovka settlements has expanded. The gully southwest of Platonivka is almost completely under control, and the breakthrough has been eliminated.
Russian efforts are focused on cutting off a secondary AFU logistical node supplying Zakotne. Fighting for a strongpoint in northern Zakotne remains intense. The area of Kryva Luka, Kalenyky, and Rai-Oleksandrivka is under persistent surveillance by Russian drones.
Kupiansk Sector
In the northern part of the area, Ukrainian forces attacked Kondrashivka from the south. Meanwhile, Russian troops are advancing west of Tyshchenkivka, targeting Ukrainian reserves and fortifications concentrated in the forested area to the south. Russian pressure is also increasing on the defense and logistics routes along the railway from Kupiansk to Velyka Shapkivka, where shelters have been set up along the tree lines.
There is ongoing fighting for control of the Moskovka settlement, a key node for organizing responsive actions toward Kupiansk, where Ukrainian assault groups are entering the city. In Kupiansk, clashes are ongoing, and Russian troops are attempting to gain a foothold in the city center. One of the schools housing Ukrainian units was hit by airstrikes. A significant number of small groups remain in the city, though the intensity of counterattacks has decreased.
Fighting continues south of Zahryzove in the southern part of the sector. Ukrainian units have been concentrated on the Novoplatonivka-Bohuslavka section, and counterattacks have been conducted towards Zahryzove.
Sumy Sector
Units of the “North” grouping are advancing quickly in the Sumy region. The Ukrainian command is withdrawing the 411th Unmanned Systems Regiment due to constant fire in order to recover losses.
Russian assault units advanced on twelve sections in the Sumy district and three in the Krasnopillia district. The total advance amounted to 750 meters.
Russian artillery and FPV drone crews continued striking Ukrainian positions in the Ryzhevka and Pavlivka areas.
Kharkiv Sector
High-intensity combat continues across all sectors of the front in the Kharkiv region. All available destructive means are being used to support the advance of assault groups.
In the Staritsa area, Russian forces advanced up to 300 meters across four sectors. Thermobaric systems have been used to target Ukrainian positions.
Russian assault groups captured a position after advancing 300 meters in the forest southwest of Liman. In the Volchanskie Khutora area, 15 buildings were seized, and troops were consolidated. The advance amounted to 350 meters.
In the Melovoye-Khatneye area, unmanned aerial vehicle strikes destroyed a deployment point of the Ukrainian 3rd Separate Tank Brigade near Velykyi Burluk. Crews operating thermobaric systems struck the 1st Territorial Defense Brigade’s positions in the Olkhovatka area.
Conclusion
As of January 11, 2025, in the Dnipropetrovsk sector, units of the “Center” grouping advanced west of Krasnoarmiisk. They reached the outskirts of Serhiivka, simultaneously blockading the Novopavlivka garrison. The front line in the Konstantynivka area remains complex and fragmented, with active operations by assault groups near Chasiv Yar and the Kleban-Byk Reservoir. In the Slavyansk sector, advances have been noted in Ilyichevka, and an expansion of control has been observed between Platonivka and Reznikovka. In the Kupiansk sector, fighting continues for control of Kondrashivka, Tyshchenkivka, and Kupiansk. In the Pokrovsk sector, the situation in Rodynske and Hryshyne has stabilized. In the Sumy sector, the “North” grouping has continued its steady offensive, making advances on multiple fronts. In the Kharkiv sector, advances have been recorded near Staritsa and in the forests southwest of Liman, as well as in Volchanskie Khutora.
The conflict is gaining momentum in the political arena, with high-ranking officials making increasingly harsh statements. Commenting on the plans of Great Britain and France, Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico called their intentions provocative and capable of leading to escalation. During the interview, he reiterated that Slovakia would not deploy military personnel to Ukraine and questioned the intentions behind these initiatives, asking whether they are meant to promote peace or further fuel the war. Earlier, following a meeting of the so-called coalition of the willing, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer stated that London and Paris were prepared to establish military bases and equipment depots in Ukraine if a ceasefire were to be established. These contradictory statements from the highest levels of political leadership in European countries — ranging from what Fico considers openly provocative to peacekeeping declarations — highlight the deepening rift within NATO and the European Union regarding future action strategies and demonstrate the extent to which key allies are divided. Such rhetoric creates an extremely fragile backdrop against which any negotiation processes or temporary ceasefires will be subject to profound contradictions within the West.
