HMS Prince of Wales
The UK’s second HMS Queen Elizabeth-class aicraft carrier, HMS Prince of Wales, is preparing for sea trials. The warship was put to sea for the first time from its assembly site at Rosyth Dockyard in Fife on 19 September.
The aircraft carrier is set to conduct sea trials off the coast of North East Scotland upon departing Rosyth before arriving at her home port of Portsmouth later this year. After this, the 65,000-tonne carrier will be handed over to the British Royal Navy.

In the days of super accurate missiles, even with planes, such carriers are floating coffins these days.
They might impress a few natives in the UK Parliament and Military, but few nations with modern missiles will be too worried :)

The British cannot even afford these lemons, and yet they are equipping their navy with two of them??? I honestly would not even flinch if these things saw combat and an adversary shot a few missiles into them at the outbreak of war putting them to the bottom of the ocean!

These are twin ships Gordon Brown committed UK to, in binding contracts that ensured it would cost more to cancel them than construct them – it was a pork barrelling political exercise to secure votes from Scottish electorates to Labor, and personally to Scottish Labor leader and Prime Minister Brown, at the time. And the whole exercise just stumbles on to this day.
Looks like a credible weapons platform for the UK. The question is what does it change in the big picture. It can not be used to eliminate the Russians or the Chinese, as that thing will not be allowed within 2k miles of any advanced nation. The development of hyper-sonic and other smart and stealthy cruise missiles really places into doubt the logic of putting so much expensive hardware on a single boat. It will probably prove fairly useful for threatening Iran or Somalia, and nations without a credible cruise missile deterrent capability.
I am not a huge fan of the f35, but i think the analysts on this page underestimate the value of a stealth weapons platform. Could it be that the russians, or the chinese have found a way to track these planes? Sure, anything is possible, but even if that is true, that is not the purpose of this weapon system. It is designed to project naval aviation in impressive numbers far beyond the British coast.
I dont get the hatred, just admire the machinery and try to understand how this changes British tactics. No need to cheer-lead for whatever nation clique you support.
