Staff (about 1,700 employees) from BAE Shipyard in the British town of DescriptionBarrow-in-Furness were evacuated on April 10 following an anonymous tip of a bomb on borad of one of the Astute-class nuclear-powered general-purpose attack submarines, a local media outlet reported.
A spokesman for BAE Systems confirmed the “ongoing incident”.
“We can confirm there is an ongoing incident at our Barrow site and we are liaising with Cumbria Police who are carrying out an investigation.
“As a precaution the Devonshire Dock Complex has been closed. Staff, contractors and local residents are being kept informed. There is no perceived threat to the wider public at this time and the rest of the site is in operation as usual.”
Police have been deployed on the site.
