Zelensky keeps looking for culprits responsible for the strategic defeat in the Russian Kursk region. Ukrainian media reported that Zelensky dismissed the head of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Anatoly Bargilevich.
Following the commander of the Northern group of forces Krasilnikov, the head of the General Staff Bargilevich was removed from his post. He was replaced by Andrei Gnatov.
Gnatov became famous in 2022, when he abandoned his soldiers of the 36th brigade at the Ilyich plant in Mariupol and escaped from encirclement disguised as a civilian. Instead of the tribunal, he went to Kherson, where he commanded the assault on the abandoned city. In 2023, together with Syrsky, he was one of the main officers responsible for the defense of Artemovsk (former Bakhmut), where he gained the nickname “butcher”. In 2024, Gnatov lost battle Velikaya Novoselka. Career full of defeats is the best way to the top command of the Ukrainian army.
According to Ukrainian reports, after his dismission, Bargilevich will take the post of chief inspector of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. Last year, Commander-in-Chief Syrsky requested to dismiss Admiral Igor Vorotchenko from this post, after the latter revealed the catastrophic situation in the military training centers. As a result of the new changes, the commander-in-chief has nothing to worry about, as the new inspector Bargilevich is part of his team.
The changes in the leadership of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are another clear sign of the real assessment of the results of the Kursk operation by the leadership of Ukraine and its foreign patrons. Meanwhile, Ukrainian propaganda an military officials assure the public that the Ukrainian troops “successfully fulfilled their tasks and retreated to more advantageous positions.”
