Calls For Withdrawal From Pokrovsk Are Getting Louder In Kiev As Defenses Collapse (Videos)

On November 3, the Russian military advanced in Pokrovsk and nearby areas in Donetsk as calls for a withdrawal from the key city got louder in Kiev.

The Tsentr [Center] Group of Forces made additional gains in the northwestern part of Pokrovsk, and expanded its control in the northeastern part of the city, specifically close to the railway station and in the Dinasov suburb. Russian troops also advanced to the east of the city, where Hnativka was completely secured.

To the north of Pokrovsk, a Ukrainian counterattack in Rodynske was contained by the Tsentr Group of Forces, which was also able to make gains in the settlement’s northern outskirts.

In Myrnohrad, to the east of Pokrovsk, Ukrainian troops are still trapped. The Tsentr Group of Forces is mounting more pressure on the small city from the eastern and southern direction. Russian troops were reportedly able to advance between the city and Sukhyi Yar.

“Assault detachments of the 2nd Army moved in and gained a foothold in residential area of Prigorodny neighborhood in Krasnoarmeysk [Pokrovs] (Donetsk People’s Republic). Russian troops continue to eliminate encircled AFU (Armed Forces of Ukraine) formations near the railroad terminal and the industrial area over the railroad, as well as mop up Ukrainian militants in Gnatovka and Rog (Donetsk People’s Republic),” the Russian Ministry of Defense said in its daily briefing, detailing the situation in the northern and eastern parts of the city.

“Ten enemy attacks as attempts to break through the encirclement were repelled to the north and north-east of Krasnoarmeysk (Donetsk People’s Republic),” the ministry continued, referring to the battle in Rodynske.

“Four attempts to release the encircled AFU group by mercenaries of the so-called ‘International Legion of the Territorial Defense of Ukraine’ and 32nd Mechanized Brigade of the AFU from Grishino (Donetsk People’s Republic) were thwarted, The enemy lost over 50 militants,” it added.

With counterattacks failing and supplies running lower, more Ukrainian soldiers and officers are reportedly surrendering in Pokrovsk and nearby areas.

The Tsentr Group of Forces has been dropping leaflets with instructions to help Ukrainian troops surrender in a safe manner.

The group also began to evacuate civilians trapped in Pokrovsk. In a video posted to social networks, one of the civilians evacuated by Russian troops details how he and others, mostly elderly, were mistreated and kicked out from their shelters by Kiev forces.

Amid the collapse of all Ukrainian defenses inside Pokrovsk and in nearby areas, calls for a withdrawal are getting louder in Kiev.

Former Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine Vitaliy Deinega on November 2 said that a withdrawal from Pokrovsk and Myrnohard was necessary to “save those who refuse to withdraw without orders.”

In a post to Facebook, Deinega acknowledged that Ukraine “has practically already lost Pokrovsk,” and noted that holding on to Myrnohard any longer is “pointless.”

“If someone doesn’t sign an order to withdraw troops from Pokrovsk and Mirnograd soon, we could find ourselves in a situation where we not only lose a significant number of highly motivated paratroopers and marines,” he wrote.

Deinega also warned that Kiev forces could soon find themselves “in a situation where there is no one to patch the hole in the front.”

Separately, Yulia Kiriyenko, a journalist for Ukraine’s TSN, warned in a Telegram post that the country could lose “several brigades which are stationed far beyond Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad.”

Overall, Ukraine is heading towards a catastrophic defeat in Pokrovsk. Kiev’s refusal to order an organized withdrawal will likely lead to mass casualties in the ranks of its own forces. A collapse in Ukrainian defenses beyond the city is also to be expected.
