A booby-trapped car exploded in the morning of September 13 near a local market in Afrin’s city center in the northern Aleppo countryside.
Few minutes after the explosion, at least two projectiles, which were launched from the eastern direction, landed in a nearby area.
“The shelling came half an hour after the car explosion from Mount Belhasia in the eastern side of the city, which is a frontline between the [Syrian] National Army and the [Kurdish] People’s Protection Units (YPG),” a reporter for the pro-opposition news outlet claimed.
According to the London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), a civilian was killed and 25 others were injured as a result of the car explosion and the shelling.
Pro-opposition sources hinted that the YPG was behind the coordinated attacks. However, the Kurdish group has not claimed responsibility for the car explosion or the shelling, so far.
In the last few months, Afrin witnessed several similar explosions. However, the Turkish military and its proxies, which occupied the region in early 2018, are yet to improve security measures in the region.
