On November 27, a large explosion rocked the southern outskirts of the Turkish-occupied town of Ras al-Ain in the northern countryside of Syria’s al-Hasakah.

Opposition sources said the explosion was caused by a booby-trapped car that blew up in a checkpoint of the Syrian National Army (SNA) near the village of Tell Janab. The checkpoint was wiped out as a result of the explosion.

According to the London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, four militants of the SNA’s Ahrar al-Sharqiyah faction were killed in the attack. Several other militants were injured.

Abdullah al-Jashaam, a spokesman for the local council in Ras al-Ain, held the U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) responsible for the attack. The local official didn’t provide any evidence to back his accusations.

The Turkish military and its proxies captured Ras al-Ain and its outskirts in October of 2019 after heavy clashes with the SDF, whose fighters showed fierce resistance.

The new attack is the most recent in a series of bombing that began after the Turkish invasion of northeastern Syria. So far, dozens of civilians, militants and several Turkish service members have been killed in similar attacks.
