On September 7, the Syrian Arab Army reportedly shelled the neighborhoods of the city of Idlib in northwestern Syria. This is the first attack targeting the city in recent months.
The artillery shells targeted the Wadi Al-Naseem neighborhood of Idlib city .
At least one person was killed in the attack. According to some reports, the number of victims has reached 5, and several other civilians were injured, including children. The exact number of victims is yet to be verified.
Some opposition sources blamed the SAA forces that are stationed in the city of Saraqib, east of Idlib, but no group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet. Some rebel sources claim the Turkish military convoy was passing by through the area when shelling by Syrian govt forces started.
The SAA is pounding militant positions in Syria’s Greater Idlib on a regular basis. It is supported by the warplanes of the Russian aerospace forces. However, the city of Idlib has not suffered from any attack in the recent military escalation in the region since June.
The ceasefire in north-western Syria was brokered by a Russian and Turkish agreement signed on 5 March 2020. However, the warrant sides are yet to abide by the agreement.
