The Russian Defense Ministry announced that a ceasefire regime had been declared in the Eastern Ghouta region near the Syrian capital of Damascus.
“A ‘regime of silence’ has been introduced from 00:01 on March 6 to 23:59 on March 20 (Damascus time) in the area of Eastern Ghouta,” the ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.
Jaish al-Islam, a major Saudi-backed militant group, is headquartered in Eastern Ghouta.
On March 6, Jaish al-Islam launched some 5 ballistic missiles against government forces positions in the Damascus countryside.
Cue bitchings about Lavrov being a traitor again in three…, two…, one….
Forget about ceasefire ! Just finish your job SAA and Russia’s aerospace ! Finish with all terrorists, that is all. Do not behave like foolish army.
SAA hasn’t enough forces to advance at each front simultaneously. The ceasefire gives them an opportunity to transfer some troops to other fronts for a while.
What’s with the ceasfires all the time?
Well it shows “good faith” although in reality the only thing happening is that SAA and Russia are spotting gathering places of the defenders. In the meantime this stronghold is cut-off from outside help so will slowly starve the population. The observation of the occupants leads to a saver infiltration into their territory rather than going all-in head first. I like the playing for time angle of Russia and SAA.
