On February 28, warplanes of the Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS) targeted ISIS hideouts in central Syria with more than 40 airstrikes, according to the London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR).
The Russian airstrikes hit hideouts in the Hama-Aleppo-Raqqa triangle, mainly on the road between the town of Ithriyah in eastern Hama and al-Tabqah in southern Raqqa.
“There is no information about any human losses [in ISIS ranks],” the monitoring group said in its report.
The Russian airstrikes were carried out in support of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA), which has been conducting combing operations in the region for the last few weeks.
Earlier this week, the SAA uncovered ten hideouts and ammunition depots of ISIS cells in Jebel Bishri, which is located between Raqqa and Deir Ezzor.
The VKS has been backing the SAA’s operations in the central region for nearly a year. The recent operations inflicted serious losses on ISIS cells and forces the terrorist group to reduce its activists in the region.
ISIS cells are mainly present in the Homs desert, which lays between eastern Homs and western Deir Ezzor. Last year, they started to venture out of the region. The terrorist group carried out dozens of attacks in the Hama-Aleppo-Raqqa triangle. According to recent reports, the terrorists receive support from US-backed fighters in the area of al-Tanf.
