On March 19, two people were killed and three others were wounded when they stumbled upon a landmine in Syria’s central region.
The incident took place near the town of Rahjan in the eastern countryside of Hama. The landmine was reportedly planted by ISIS cells.
Pro-government activists said that the incident claimed the lives of Ali Louay al-Malouhi and teenager Anas Ali Miqdad. The wounded were identified as Sami Samir Haider, Ali Iyad Seifou and Mohamed Mamoun Saeed.
In the recent weeks, ISIS cells in central Syria stepped up their attacks on government forces and civilians. Most of the terrorists’ recent attacks took place in the eastern Homs countryside.
The al-Quds Brigade, a Palestinian pro-Damascus armed group, announced on March 17 that five of its fighters were killed in the central region. The fighters were ambushed by ISIS terrorists while conducting a combing operation in the eastern Homs countryside.
On the same day, a series of Syrian and Russian airstrikes targeted hideouts of the terrorists in the Hama-Aleppo-Raqqa triangle.
ISIS recent attacks in central Syria will likely force government forces and their allies to intensify their operations in the region. The terrorist group’s insurgency will not likely end any time soon. However, it can be contained.
