On August 25, dozens of Russian airstrikes and Syrian artillery strikes targeted ISIS’ remaining cells in Syria’s central region.
According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, more than 30 Russian airstrikes hit hideouts of the terrorist group in the following areas:
- The outskirts of the town of al-Sukhnah in the eastern Homs countryside;
- The outskirts of the town of al-Sholah in the western Deir Ezzor countryside;
- The outskirts of the town of al-Resafa in the southern Raqqa countryside;
- The eastern countryside of Hama.
At the same time, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) artillery targeted vehicles of ISIS cells which were moving around the town of al-Sukhnah.
Despite the intense strikes, ISIS terrorists managed to launch an attack on positions of the SAA near the town of al-Resafa on August 26. No losses were reported, however.
ISIS cells launch their attack from the Homs desert, their main stronghold in the central region. Hundreds of terrorists have been taking shelter in the desert area, which lays between eastern Homs and western Deir Ezzor. The terrorists reportedly receive support from US-backed fighters based in al-Tanf, to the southeast of the desert.
The terrorist group’s insurgency in central Syria have been slowing down for a while now. Nevertheless, it will not likely end anytime soon.
If we use Napalm it will quickly wanish.
What a nightmare trying to clear out the terrorists from the desert. Only a matter of time before the SAA and the Russians clear them out.
US is distracted in Kabul. Russia can take out Al-Tanf base while US is clearly overstretched and can’t even evacuate its own citizens.
