Central Syria: Russian Airstrikes Kill, Wound Scores Of ISIS Terrorists

At least 16 terrorists of ISIS were killed and more than 30 others were wounded in recent Russian airstrikes on Syria’s central region, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported on February 12.

According to the London-based monitoring group, the airstrikes, which targeted different parts of the central region, took place between February 10 and 12.

The most recent wave of Russian airstrikes killed seven terrorists of ISIS. The airstrikes targeted vehicles and hideouts of the terrorist group’s cells in the outskirts of the town of Ithriyah in the eastern Hama countryside and on the al-Bishri mount which lays along the administrative border between Raqqa and Deir Ezzor.

Despite facing much pressure from the Russian Aerospace Forces, ISIS cells in central Syrian continue to launch attacks from time to time.

On February 11, the terrorists ambushed a convoy of the Syrian Arab Army in the eastern Homs countryside. An officer and two soldiers were reportedly killed in the ambush.

ISIS insurgency in central Syria appears to be losing momentum. The terrorist group’s cells sustained heavy human and material losses in the last few months. Currently, they pose to no real risk to key urban centers and strategic roads in the region.
