Chaos And Insecurity In Somalia

Militants of the al-Qaeda-linked Al-Shabaab group have captured a military unit in central Somalia. The terrorist attack in the village of Vasil was carried out with a car loaded with explosives in front of a military checkpoint, followed by a storm by the assault groups.

According to the al-Shabaab’s sources, more than thirty soldiers from the 21st Division of the Somali Armed Forces were killed in a shootout. According to official data, five people were killed in the terrorist attack, including two servicemen.

The terrorists also captured the equipment and weapons of the government forces.

Meanwhile, about eighteen Al-Shabaab militants were sentences to death in the Puntland region. All of them were found guilty of committing terrorist attacks and killing local soldiers and civilians.

On June 18, the Somali National Army (SNA) announced that it killed 30 terrorists of al-Qaeda-affiliated Harakat al-Shabaab al-Mujahideen during a recent operation in the southern region of Middle Shebelle.

 

On June 26, a roadside bomb targeted a motorcade of the Minister of Security of the autonomous region of Puntland in the suburb of the Somalia city of Bosaso. According to official data, one serviceman was killed, several others were injured. According to the reports, the minister was not injured.

The Islamic State claimed responsibility for the explosion. According to the group, two people were killed in the explosion. The last time IS declared activity in Somalia two weeks ago.
