On April 29th, Turkish security forces launched two operations against the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in Turkey’s southeastern region.

In a statement, the Turkish Ministry of Internal Affairs said that the operations, codenamed “Eren Cudi-Besta” and “Eren Kazan-Ogul,” would target PKK remnants in the provinces of Sirnak and Hakkari. 5,280 security personnel are participating in the two operations.

“The Eren operations continue successfully with the support of the public in a faithful and determined manner,” the statement reads.

The domestic “anti-terror” operations coincide with Turkey’s large-scale “Operation Claw-Lightning” against the PKK in the Iraqi Kurdistan Region. The operation, which is backed by the Turkish Air Force, was launched on April 24.

The Turkish military and security forces have already sustained human losses. Two service members were killed in the Kurdistan Region while a third was killed in Hakkari, according to the official claims.

The PKK intensified its attacks on Turkish forces in the Kurdistan Region in response to the new operations. Earlier this week, Kurdish guerrilla fighters attacked a “secret” Turkish base with guided missiles.
