Chief Of Turkish General Staff Says Al-Bab Is Liberated. Is There Another Town With Same Name In Syria?

Pro-Turkish militants in the area of al-Bab

The northern Syrian town of al-Bab has been liberated from ISIS terrorists and Turkish troops are now working to clear the area from mines and explosives, the Turkish daily “Daily Sabah” reported, citing Chief of General Staff Gen. Hulusi Akar.

The article reads (source):

The operation to liberate the northern Syrian town of al-Bab from Daesh terrorists has almost been completed and Turkish troops are working to clear mines and explosives, Chief of General Staff Gen. HulusiAkar reportedly said, Turkish Sabah daily’s Ankara Bureau Chief Okan Müderrisoğlu reported.

According to Müderrisoğlu, General Akar told journalists accompanying President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on his three-day visit to Gulf countries that the al-Bab Operation has been finished and explosive ordnance disposal teams are currently working to clear the region.

Müderrisoğlu quoted Akar as saying that two large bomb-traps have successfully been detonated, and other bombs and mines are being cleared.

WHAT?

Probably, the Turkish chief of general staff forgot that pro-Turksih militant groups, backed up by the Turkish army, had retreated almost from all areas seized in the ISIS stronghold of al-Bab. Thus, the only side controlling al-Bab is ISIS.

Is this statement a bad propaganda move for the internal audience or a grand mistake by some journalists?

Either Al-Bab has fallen, or it hasn’t. Somebody’s either telling nonsense, or a miracle happened and ISIS withdrew from the city overnight. Potentially its possible, considering the close ties ISIS had with Turkey.

Delusional Kebab.

Gary Sellars

Is there any other kind?

Avoid unnecessary commas. Instead of: “Thus, the only side, which controls al-Bab, is ISIS” it should read: Thus, the only side that controls al-Bab is ISIS.” Better: “Thus, the only side controlling al-Bab is ISIS.”

Thank you for the feedback. The article was updated.

Liberated? Rather changed occupying forces, from Turkish proxy ISIS to pro-Turkish militants and Turkish forces.

Xanatos

Turkey is depending on lies as foreign policy.

Looks like ISIS received new orders from above. Hasakah all over again?

I don’t believe so, last movement was by ISUS to take back the highway area. The TU/FSA where in a bad spot at the round about. Tadif was not taken and held by SAA as reported. Maybe SAA pulled back and had a good laugh about their situation. Syria has no love for the invaders.

Trustin Judeau

SAA never took Tadef. It never attacked it according to trusted pro goverment sources.

Gary Sellars

Agreed. They held back to let the Turdkish terrorists and IS kill each other while they sweep Eastwards and look to block the kebabs from advancing towards Raqqa.

PZIVJ1943

Good point. The Tigers are well led and have a winning strategy here. I wish there where more of them!

BTW this was reported by Daily Sabah.
