The Chinese military has passed into service a new warplane, aimed to conduct “military information support operations and civil affairs broadcasts in F.M. radio, television and military communications bands.”
The four-engine Y-8GX7 psychological operations plane (Chinese name: Gaoxin-7) is a copy of the Soviet An-12 plane (the first prototype An-12 flew in December 1957. Its maximum speed is 777 km/h and payload is 20,000 kg.
The Y-8GX7’s ability to beam propaganda and disinformation into hostile territory will be very useful in conflict sones where the internet access is limited or a major part of the population prefer other sources of information.
This palne is one more step on the long Chinese way to active participation in security and peacekeeping operations overseas.
