China continues to surprise with innovations in its fleet. On June 7, the first unmanned boat was launched in Zhejiang province during autonomous navigation tests. The ship was launched in the coastal waters of Zhoushan city.
Development of the ship began in 2015 by one of the Zhejiang firms – Zhejiang Beikun Intelligent Technology Co. Then it was launched in Jiangxi province, in the city of Jiujian in 2019. The first sea trials were conducted on Poyanghu Lake with a route of 1,000 nautical miles.
The boat can be equipped with various armaments, radar, sonar, optoelectronic equipment, and communication and navigation facilities. The boat is 40 meters long, displacement is 100 tons, the ship is capable of speeds up to 20 knots, and operates in sea waves of 6 points.
The Chinese navy is becoming more autonomous, functional, and diverse. In a challenging global environment, the PRC is emphasizing weapons development and trying to create new capabilities.
