On August 21, the China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation launched unmanned multi-purpose combat boat called “JARI-USV”. According to the combat boat developer, the JARI-USV is fully combat ready. The JARI-USV is developed by № 716 and № 702 research institutes under the China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation.
The ship has a length of about15 meters and a displacement of 20 tons. Its speed is 42 knots and the operating range of independent cruise is 500 nautical miles. The multi-purpose vesse is reportedly capable of conducting air defense, anti-ship and anti-submarine missions thanks to a phased array radar system, vertical-launched missiles and torpedoes.
The JARI-USV could become a vital part of China’s assymetric response to conventional naval threats. Such combat boats can be used as a part of a swarm of small boats using their size and maneuverability to track and hunt down enemy warships using their weapon systems. This approach looks like those used by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy in the Persian Gulf. However, the Chinese variant of speed boats used in this swarm tactic could be described as more effective because it excludes the need to employ personnel directly on the line of confrontation.
nice
Small boat. Big content.
Interesting concept.
Mini phased array radar system to be used with mini missiles. How cute. :)
It looks as if the much vaunted US carrier groups are now decaying relic’s of the 21st century :)
Aircraft carriers dinosaur era at the end.
They’re dinosaurs , but only until one gets sunk. The battleships were dinosaurs too by the time WW2 started, but it still took Pearl Harbour to happen to make everybody realize that.
Not ‘everybody’, just those whose jobs depended on them NOT saying that :)
The real (carrier-killing) naval drones of China will be (or maybe are?) subs. This is just camouflage.
Sensor/sniffer boats.
Just sniff out the cocaine trail left in the wake of the US ships to locate them, Dick.
