On July 24th, a Chinese researcher – Juan Tang was reportedly detained in the Chinese consulate in San Francisco, according to unnamed officials cited by the LA Times.
Officials briefing reporters declined to discuss the alleged arrest, but U.S. authorities had been seeking Juan Tang, a researcher at UC Davis who was charged with lying about her military service in China.
A spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry accused the U.S. of “political persecution” on July 23rd in response to a question about the case, but didn’t mention whether Tang was being sheltered by diplomats.
“We urge the U.S. to stop using any excuse to limit, harass and crack down on Chinese scholars and Chinese students in the U.S.,” spokesman Wang Wenbin told a regular news briefing in Beijing.
At the same time, following the Chinese consulate in Houston, Texas being closed, China responded by closing and, subsequently, raiding the US Consulate in Chengdu.

The Trump administration had given China until the afternoon on July 24th to vacate the Houston consulate. US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo had charged that the consulate was “a hub of spying and intellectual property theft”.
The US consulate was shuttered on July 25th.
Consular workers had been observed conducting a mass burning of documents ahead of the consulate’s closure.

It appears that the escalation will not end, but will lead to further pressure from both sides in every possible avenue.

I would take these allegations more seriously if I wouldnt know the fact that most U.S. embassy and consulate workers are CIA employees.

US has indeed turned all embassies in spying and occupation bases. No wonder the Iranians coined the “den of spies” cachet for all US embassies, same can said for all western “diplomatic” outposts which fund destabilization and terrorism. Russia needs to shut down all US consulates and NGO’s as well, especially in the far east where they are sowing seeds of sedition.
China is now the world’s only economic pole as US has lost in very aspect and is playing sore loser.

1.5 billion is quite lot of people. I think they’ll menage on their own without mimicking idiotic West who imported tens of millions of illegal emigrants who often hate them and spread terrorism.
With 1 billion plus there is enough critical mass to not need kids for the next 50 years.
The West will be extinct by then – they’re not producing kids either are already heavily dependent on migrants.
In 10 years time those migrants will have made their way into the ruling classes of the West, but China will always be ruled by Chinese.
US is belatedly trying to contain China, while the proverbial horse has bolted. China has trillions of dollars in reserves and foreign investment, it is the unparalleled global manufacturing hub and increasingly holds commanding heights in scientific, industrial and medical research and development. The US is cutting its own dying throat. China’s prime position can not be reversed by immature theatrics.
“immature theatrics” are integral part of the rich Hollywood movie tradition so they are understandable. Somebody has to explain to US that this is not movie but reality.
These Americans are so full of lies it’s hard to know where to begin. Every tale they tell via the media is marinated in a thick layer of bullshit.
– Accused of IP theft yet she is on a medical research program funded by joint Chinese and American parties.
– Claimed to be hiding out in the consulate but arrested outside it. If arrested outside it, why now only?
– Claimed that she was arrested inside the embassy but that is plain bullshit since Americsns cannot enter the premises unless violating laws applying to diplomacy.
– Americans claim the Chinese were caught in the act of burning documents, but this is standard practice with all embassies following notification of closure.
– Researcher charged with spying now charges changed to visa fraud. Who knows what next.
