The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), supported by US-led coalition warplanes, started the second phase of operation to liberate Syria’s Manbij from the ISIS terrorist group.
On June 16, Kurdish SDF units reportedly entered the northeastern part of the city’s suburbs while clashes are ongoing along the whole perimeter of the Manbij pocket.
US officials argue that the operation is led by some “Syrian Arab Coalition” that is an Arab part of the SDF. However, reports indicate that the Kurdish YPG, backed up by US, French and German special operation forces, remains the main strike force.
