UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura said that the organization was not able to send humanitarian assistance to any of the besieged areas of Syria in August.

During a briefing, which was held in Geneva, Mistura said that clashes with extremists, continued in many areas in Syria, have prevented the UN forces to deliver humanitarian aid to indigent local residents.

“No one convoy. And why? Just because there are fights,” the UN Special Envoy noted.

According to him, the last time residents of Madaya and all other Syrian areas, such as Kefraya, Fua and Al-Zabadani, besieged by terrorists, received a cargo of humanitarian aid from the UN 110 days ago.

Mistura also stressed that for this reason he interrupted the last meeting of the humanitarian group on Syria.

Earlier, the UN leadership highly estimated the assistance, which was provided to the population of Aleppo by Russia, and expressed its willingness to join the humanitarian operation.

According to an official representative of the UN Special Envoy on Syria, Jesse Shaheen, the intergovernmental organization is ready to develop a joint plan for a ‘humanitarian pause’ for 48 hours to deliver the required assistance to the population.
