A report of the Conflict Armament Research (CAR) revealed new details about the Water-Born Improvised Explosive Devices (WBIEDs) that the Houthis have used to attack several warships of the Saudi-led coalition over the last two years.

The CAR inspected a WBIED captured by the UAE Navy. It was a 10-meter patrol boats powered by two 200 horsepower L200A Ymaha outboards engines. The boat was made in the UAE by Al Fattan Ship Industry. According to CAR, the UAE donated 60 boats of this type to Yemen before the outbreak of the war.

According to CAR report, the WBIED were guided by a DIY mission computer aided by a GPS antenna made by Garmin, an autopilot compass made by Nexus and remotely controlled turntable and gimbaled camera installed on the boat’s tower.

The WBIED is steered via a hydraulic system added on to the boat’s steering wheel. As for the explosive charge, the boat used 454kg hollow charge warhead taken from a Soviet-made P-15 Termit anti-ship missile. The warhead was contacted to several impact fuses.

The report suggested that Iran was directly involved in the developing of the WBIED examined by the CAR’s team, as cables made by the Iranian Simia Cable Co. were used to wire the components of the guidance system together. The DIY mission computer also used a keyboard with Persian letters, according to the report.

On January 29, a similar WBIED was used by the Houthis to hit the Saudi Navy frigate al-Madinah in the Red Sea. The Saudi frigate survived the attack but suffered a serious damage.

The Saudi Navy destroyed another WBIED of the Houthis near the coast of the Saudi Jizan province on April 26. Later on July 30, a WBIED of the Houthis targeted the Yemeni Mocha port that’s under the control of the Saudi-led coalition.

Even with a very low success rate, these WBIEDs have proven to be a real threat to the Saudi-led coalition during the Yemeni war.

Fine example of asymmetric warfare.

Interesting job Yemenis. When will those people admit you have the knowledge and the will to do these kind of work?

Let me see I got this right. There’s some made in Iran wires in the boat, and that’s it? 6 pics of the wires from different angles so to prove Iran’s involvement? And without a clear picture of keyboard (which seems very old by the shape of it but you can’t see the letters), how they concluded it’s Persian keyboard and not Arabic? Amazing they didn’t find an Iranian passport in the boat.

Suicide in not permitted in Islam, no matter the reason. If they were Wahhabi perhaps it was easier to send a sucker with the boat and avoid all this trouble, but they’re not.

“Suicide in not permitted in Islam, no matter the reason” and yet…..

Thank you for the link. Have you read it yourself?

The article counts the sacrifice of someone (in the middle of the fight, or as the article put it “A small Shiite group of 20 militants was fighting against 500 opposition militants”) to save his group as suicide. By that logic, Russians are the biggest suicide attackers and all countries have them in their wars. Which culture counts a soldier who holds a grenade on his stomach to save other soldiers as suicidal? A suicide act is when you can have other means of achieving your goal (killing enemy soldiers for instance, or just kill civilians for the sake of terrorizing them) and yet you choose to kill yourself.

The truth, as the article you posted say too, is that Shi’a suicide attacks are unheard of so far.

Graeme Rymill

“Suicide in not permitted in Islam, no matter the reason” When I pointed to an article that talks about numerous Shia suicides in war you then start to give reasons when it is permitted. lol….

The article doesn’t say “Shi’a suicide attacks are unheard of so far.” It says something quite different. The article says suicide attacks “have largely been unheard of in recent years”. It then goes on to show that these suicide operations are not uncommon by quoting a Hezbollah field commander ‘s justification for them.

You can pretend the article says there are no Shia suicides but the reality is it says the exact opposite.

Garga

You can conclude whatever you want. Suicide is not permitted and nothing can change that little fact. Shi’as don’t commit suicide attacks and that’s something you can’t change either by your wishful thinking.

Since when fighting enemy in a war is equal to suicide? And since when someone saying they’re ready to sacrifice their lives [Hezbollah’s field commander in the article] is equal to suicide?

I’m beginning to think you didn’t read the article you posted yourself.

Graeme Rymill

lol.. don’t argue with me… argue with Al-Monitor. It is they who talk about suicide operations by Shia. It is clear from the examples that Shia commit suicide. You say they are really “martyrdom operations” and not suicide… fine. We will have to agree to disagree.

Garga

No, I never talked about martyrdom. I say that’s war. People do that in war regardless of their belief and faith.

This article about Houthi RC boats is another sign. They build something like that because suicide attack is not an option to them, unlike Wahhabis.

I’m inclined to accept evidence, not wishful thinking, but apparently you disagree. We’ll do what you suggested.

TiredOfBsToo

“Amazing they didn’t find an Iranian passport in the boat.”

Maybe they forgot where they placed it.
