Combat Footage: ISIS Cells Ambushed Nigerian Army Convoy In Borno (18+)

Screen grab from the ambush video.

On August 11, ISIS news agency Amaq shared footage of a recent attack by the group on a convoy of the Nigerian Armed Forces (NAF) in the northeastern Nigerian state of Borno.

ISIS terrorists ambushed the convoy as it was passing near the town of Kareto on the Gubio-Damasak highway on August 1. Heavy clashes broke out between the terrorists and Nigerian troops, who managed to escape with minimum losses.

NAF troops were heading to Gubio to pick up members of the All Progressives Congress for a session set to be hold in Damasak. The army were supposed to accompany the politicians all the way from Abadam to Damasak.

According to Amaq, three service members of the NAF were killed and several others were wounded in the ambush. ISIS terrorists also burned three pickup trucks and seized some weapons.

ISIS cells in northeastern Nigeria have been stepping up their attacks in Borno state, mainly in the area bordering Lake Chad.

Nigerian government forces conduct operations against ISIS cells in Borno on a regular basis. However, the terrorists continue to launch attacks. The lack of sufficient coordination between Nigeria and other countries bordering Lake Chad has allowed ISIS to turn the region into a safe haven for its terrorists.
