Jaysh Assoud al-Sharkia announced on July 19 that unknown militants assassinated one of its commanders in eastern Qalamoun. According to opposition sources, militants on a motorcycle shot Shibli Khalifa in Dumair City.

Jaysh Assoud al-Sharkia is considered one of the largest groups backed by the US-led coalition, and there are fighters from it in the US base of Al Tanf on the Syrian-Iraqi border.

Opposition activist Karam Saad al-Haj said that the assassination took place near the local clinic and the al-Qal’a Roundabout. He also said that Khalifa was transferred to a medical point immediately, but he died there, adding that the perpetrators of the assassination hadn’t yet been identified. Opposition sources accused Syrian Intelligence or ISIS of being behind the operation.

Earlier this month a unidentified militant had assassinated a commander of Assoud al-Sharkia in Dumeir town. Assoud al-Sharkia accused the Syrian Intelligence of being behind the assassination.

However, pro-government sources claimed that Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) is the one who had carried out assassinations in Dumair town in order to sabotage the reconciliation negotiations between the Syrian government and the Free Syrian Army (FSA) in eastern Qalamoun.

Payback is a bitch.

Pave Way IV

CIA ‘cleaning up’ loose ends before the fall – they can’t have their former stooges ratting out their CIA handlers after the final collapse of the FSA.

Assassination was really HTS trying to sabotage reconciliation? Yeah, sure…. let’s go with that story. CNN and the New York Times will love it.

Daniel

Well both might be correct as HTS is Al-Qaeda and Al-Qaeda is CIA made and funded, so they could be used to tie up loose ends.

Terra Cotta Woolpuller

These commanders were major negotiators with the CIA they could have linked them in any investigation since over a month ago the US had decided to cut funding of these groups. They may have announced the funding cut recently but it was well known in Washington about 2 monthsago about the Trump’s decision to terminate the funding.

Daniel

I just wonder if Trump really is stronger than CIA. See what happened to Kennedy after he was trying to clean up CIA.

IH8Lies

Kennedy got killed because he signed Executive Order 11110.

Daniel

Well I guess he got killed for several reasons. He started working against the secret government on many areas.

Jens Holm

Its outside the debate. But USA need a better CIA – and can Trump make it. I doubt it.
