The Polish Foreign Ministry tried to recruit the Russian ambassador in WArsaw. Russian ambassador, Sergei Andreev said that during a call to the Polish Foreign Ministry he was asked to condemn the recent referendums in the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics and the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions. In exchange, the Russian diplomat was promised assistance and support.
The demand of the Polish Foreign Ministry to the Russian Ambassador to condemn the referendums is a provocation, an unprecedented case, said Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Yevgeny Ivanov.
“This is an obvious provocation, a completely unprecedented case in diplomatic work,” the deputy Foreign Minister told reporters.
The Polish provocation is another example of the dead Western diplomacy.
Russian Permanent Representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzia has recently pointed out to the UN Security Council that the West follows double standards when not recognizing referendums in the Donbass, Kherson and Zaporozhie regions. He reminded the international community of the recognition of Kosovo. There are also other examples of Western recognition of annexation of territories without the consent of the States they were part of. Texas seceded from Mexico in 1836, and then became part of the United States; in 1990 and 1991, Slovenia and Croatia held referendums on independence from Yugoslavia without the consent of its authorities and were recognized by the Western countries; in 1991, referendums on independence from the USSR were held in Estonia, Ukraine, Georgia, Moldova, Turkmenistan, Armenia and Azerbaijan – contrary to the will of the Soviet leadership and the entire Soviet people, who voted for the preservation of the Union at the referendum; and when the FRG and GDR were united, no one asked the opinion of the local population, i.e. the absorption of West Germany by East Germany passed without any referendum.
