COVID-19 Crisis In Russia: Evacuation Of Citizens From Abroad Delayed. Citizenship Requirements For Foreigners Eased

IMAGE: RIA Novosti

Something strange is happening with the evacuation of Russian citizens that stuck abroad amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis and mass lockdowns around the world.

According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, there are 25,00035,000 Russian citizens abroad that want to return to Russia. People that remain in the South-East Asia and India are currently in especially dare conditions. Despite this, on April 3, the government announced that it was halting flights returning its nationals from abroad after midnight April 4. The move came amid a series of questionable lockdown measures employed across Russia under the pretext of containing the COVID-19 outbreak.

On April 6, Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin came with a detailed statement addressing the implementation of the anti-COVID-19 meausres, slamming the erupting cases of overzealous bureaucracy, and announcing the resumption of special flights returning Russinas from foreign countries. This announcement was positively received by the Russian public.

However, on April 7, it appeared that the Russian Federal Air Transport Agency withdrew the previously issued permission to fly the plane from Khabarovsk to evacuate Russian tourists from South Korea’s Seoul. The regional government said that it was working to get more details on the situation.

Earlier it was reported that it is planned to return up to 1,500 Russians from abroad via seven flights from various countries, including Thailand, Japan and South Korea. The airline “Aurora” was supposed to take out more than 170 tourists from Seoul to Khabarovsk.

Meanwhile, the government introduced a bill that allows foreigners not to renounce its previous citizenship upon receipt of a Russian one. The document was published in the database of the lower house of parliament.

Additionally, the bill proposes to repeal the provision requiring to reside in Russia for three years and confirm the availability of means of subsistence for those who were citizens of the USSR, lived or reside in former republics of the USSR. The exemption applies to foreigners married to Russian citizens living in the country with common children. In addition, if there is at least one parent being a Russian citizen residing in the country, foreigners can apply for Russian citizenship in a simplified manner.

It remains unclear why this initiative is introduced right now, when Russia is affected by the COVID-19 outbreak and most notably lockdown meausres to contain the ‘COVID-19 threat’.

The Russian citizenship is not just a passport. In accordance with the Constitution, this means that a person, as a part of the Russian nation, becomes the owner of all its resources and territory.  The reasons behind the decision to simplify the citizenship procedure for citizens of the countries of the former USSR are understandable. However, the decision to simlify the process of gaining the citizenship for people who have never had any relation to Russia, the USSR, and the Russian Empire raises questions.

What kind article is this…Russia is one of the safest place s in the World, so that’s no wonder that so many people in Europe and moreover all around the World would like to live there, to be there, to get Russian Citizenship, etc.

LOL…Glorious Mother Russia has one of the highest murder rates in the world. Almost twice the US and almost 10 times the EU. The murder rate in Russia is higher than most all the countries of Africa. This is one of the reasons Russians live almost a decade less than folk in the EU and US. Over the years, for each American that moved to Russia, 100 Russians moved to the US. A recent survey of Russian Millennials found that almost half wanted to move to another country. Seems conditions for a typical person has gotten so bad that Russia has one of the highest suicide rates in the World. Great and Glorious my foot. And it will by way worse there by the end of the month when the Pandemic and Putz Putin’s stupid oil and gas policies take hold. When the RF collapses like the Russian Soviet Empire did, they likely will have to speak Mandarin in Siberia.

Saso Mange

Maybe it has ”one of highest murder rates” but most certainly Russia is behind USA. In many cities it’s war zone because of crime and weapons – you can catch a bullet while walking to buy bread in Chicago for example. As for suicide rates – in the USA every year numerous firemen commit suicide and they alone constitute more suicides than majority of world nations. At least you can get medical examination in Russia, for free, while in the USA teenagers are denied access to healthcare and they die in front of clinics.

It’s just facts, and there is so much more to say. I do not like Russia because of their support to Serbian war criminals but i think that Russia has done so much good while the West, particularly the USA has became world leading criminal in last 20 years time. Hate makes your replies to be senseless Jake.

Jake321

Learn to read English. Russia has almost twice the murder rate of the US and Russia’s suicide rate is significantly higher than in the US. Got that yet? And what paradise on Earth are you from? Wherever it is, I bet way way more folk from there have moved and still move to the US than Americans move there. And those who come here tend to be the best and the brightest. You clearly are not one of them. So enjoy where you are. We don’t want or need you. But your smartest and most talented compatriots will continue to come here and make fine American Citizens.

Oh, no hate from me except for my enemies. And I act on this site with the understanding that when in Rome do as the Romans do.

Saso Mange

Oh so i can’t read English. Go take your Hasbara back to where it belongs you boring fuck.

Itseemes to be Your first time Yoga.

I can only see people from Russia try to get anywhere else. Being only 70 yrars old instead of 80 does it. Vomen leave and make no children.

Fuckturkius Sraloukranius

Tens of thousands of Russians went abroad on vacation around first half of March, when Pandemia was already declared. I do not feel sorry and I do not sympathize those irresponsible individuals. Moreover, many of them, once arrived from abroad, escaped from isolation, and this is why Russia will be the next Italy. So stupid people. Russians in Russia many of them do not take it seriously at all. I think they need another big tragedy like WWII so that their instinct starts working again. You may see on the streets a lot of people, a lot of traffic. It is not normal. This is why I say Putin is very soft. Russia today needs Stalin. Russian government do their best, tens of $billions will be spent for social needs, and for healthcare – there are tens of thousands of Russians who live abroad and now decided to come back to Russia in order to use free healthcare. As you can see, Russian government is way more democratic than most of the Western govs. The thing is that Russians do not appreciate democracy, they are doing great only under dictatorship.

Jens Holm

Those some 20.000 s are not a lot compared to other countries takes home.

Anti_Globalista

I think it makes sense to bring more people with traditional values to Russia, so they can contribute to build better and stronger country. For example, Boer farmers from South Africa, where they have been terrorized, and looking for country that is close to their traditional values. It is not that Russia has booming population, and can’t use some foreign human resources. Most of it is vast empty land that needs people to make country strong.

Jake321

LOL…And I’m sure as the RF collapses China will be glad to help you out on this. The folk in Siberia better start to learn Mandarin.

Jens Holm

A pathetic version of the world. Most Russian emmigrants at that time, before that and after left because iof the reasons You give them to come back.

Most of those Russians have not been ruissians for generations but fx Americans.

The repsinsible for Russia atr those, which throw them out incl. more then 5 million Jews. Russia still dont have the middle class made by education, where Jews was blamed for educati´ng themselves and by that also often have a good income.

Some few in South Africa makes no changes in that.

Boers in South Africa did not terrorirze the local but lived well among them. The bad times there was made by Boers and Britts.

Besides that not many was Russians emmigrants.

Jens Holm

Its the same for everybody around the world.

Willing Conscience (The Truths

Gee any guesses as to why these new laws have been introduced?

The Saudis and the Arab League and most of OPEC are happily destroying Russia’s economy right now, by lowering world oil prices and lifting production they’re effectively reducing Russia’s export revenue to nothing, if it gets any lower than it is now it’ll cost the Russians more to produce their oil than they get for selling it. And Russia’s financing 3 ongoing wars at the same time, Syria, the Ukraine, and Libya, so something has to snap doesn’t it, Russia can’t afford to be financing 3 different wars simultaneously, especially now their economy is about to flatline or worse, and now they also have the coronavirus to contend with as well, that’s also costing Russia a fortune and will cost them even more soon. And Putin just BEGGED Trump to help him stop the Saudis/the Arab League/OPEC from destroying his economy, and Trump did do something, oil prices surged by 25% for a little while, but for Trump to do that he must’ve gotten something in return, something really big, and until I read this story I had no idea what it could’ve been, now I can at least take a good guess.

Not many people around the world want to immigrate to Russia unless it’s for financial reasons, poor refugees would love this new law [Africans will be lining up in their millions], but sadly none of them will be immigrating to Russia and becoming citizens any time soon, this laws not for them. But one group of people that live outside of Russia will be more than happy to become Russian citizens, and mother Russia will be more than happy to accept them, so who are they you ask, who loves Russia and who does Russia love enough to let them in, the Russian Ukrainians of course.

But why do the Russian Ukrainians need new laws to immigrate to Russia you might also ask, they already can anyway, why make new laws if they can do it already, and the answer is now this new law makes it quicker and easier for them to do it, way less red tape. And then if you also ask why would they need to immigrate to Russia anyway, I’ll again mention Trump, Trump just tried to save Russia’s economy and he didn’t do it out of the goodness of his heart, he must’ve got something in return, that’s how politics works, but what did he get in return you might ask, and I’ll refer you to this article by SF above to help explain. The Russian Ukrainians may be looking for a new home soon, if part of Trump’s deal was Ukrainian sovereignty it means some unhappy Russian Ukrainians will be looking for new homes soon. Possibly they’ll be given the option of either staying in Ukraine if they agree to live under Ukrainian government administration, or be allowed to immigrate to Russia and start a new life there, I suspect this is why the Russians enacted this new law all of a sudden and out of the blue. Turkstream may be playing second fiddle to the Ukrainians soon, that would make the Saudis and the Arab League as happy as pigs in you know what, and Trump would also be happy with the deal, he’d have something to brag about, and even Putin himself wouldn’t be so miserable about the deal, he could even use it to his advantage if he does what I think he might do, in fact the only person I could see blowing a fuse if my speculation did actually became fact, would be that madman Erdogan, he’s the biggest loser in this scenario I’m imagining. I can’t imagine any other reasons for this new law being enacted, and coming straight after Putin and Trumps negotiations it just seems to be the only logical reason for the timing of this announcement. Keep an eye on the news outlets over the next few weeks, I suspect some of us are about to get some more bad news soon, but if I’m right it isn’t really that bad at all [just humiliating for Putin], because in the long run I think it would be good for everyone involved, everyone except for Turkey that is, so for me at least there’s a thick silver lining on the approaching dark cloud, a really thick one.
