The world is uniting to contain the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, with Russia, China and Cuba deploying specialists to the Italian hotspot, there is a group of people that intentionally fuels the crisis. This tendency is especially apparent in post-Soviet states, like Ukraine, Russia and Belarus.
The so-called ‘pro-Western’ part of the population of these countries have been started becoming a real threat to them. For example, over the past weeks, Russia has been targeted by a number of waves of fake news campaigns regarding the situatino with the COVID-19 outbreak and the social security (access to food, water and social services) in the country.
The main narratives was that the government was hiding the truth about the rammatic death toll (debunked even by the WHO) and the lack of food in big cities. Here you can see how photos and videos of empty stores were being made. A person was taking food products from the shelf and making a photo of an empty shelf. After this, he returns food products to it.
Additionally, Russian sources report about mass attempts of ‘pro-Western’ Russian citizens returning from foreign countries (especially Europe, which is the center of the COVID-19 outbreak) to ignore quarantine measures needed to prevent the spread of the virus. They intenrionally ignore the needed quarantine period (14 days) and do not report about light COVID-19 symptoms.
A similar behavior is observed among Ukrainian citizens returned from Europe (most of them worked there – legally or even illegally). In videos appearing online, they directly state that they do not care about other Ukrainians and will not comple with the introduced security measures.
The situation in Belarus is not much better with multiple pro-Western radicals promoting an idea that the COVID-19 outbreak is positive news because it would allow to get rid of older people that have ‘positive views’ towards the USSR and Russia.
The hardcore pro-Western and anti-government views, and the apparent hate towards their fellow citizens (that do not seek to migrate to the West or do not have ‘right views’) turn thse persons a real threat to the societies to which they return.
It’s a shame what supposedly “liberal” or “enlightened” and “democratic” people will do to disrupt a society or even other societies!

Russia is actually quite well run and Vladimir Putin can win elections until the end of his days or 2036.
Actually, I’m looking to see if I can find an Russian ETF to buy now that the stock market has been pounded into dust. Russia is the only country that has managed the situation correctly. Probably built up some goodwill along the way, the Italians might not renew sanctions but even if they do, a Russian ETF is still a good buy.

This is just semantics Richard, it is all ready well known that older people with another or more medical conditions are more at risk. Italy’s numbers are high at 9% mortality rate from Covid-19, but Spain is now claiming close to 7%. Perhaps Italy has a broken healthcare system right now with more retired people from EU living there at risk?
Yes you are right in the sense that contracting COVID19 tipped them over the edge and yes, without this virus these extreme at risk elderly may have survived longer from their co-existing morbidities – correct, but the death rate among otherwise healthy individuals, even in Italy, is less than 0.4 %
I wouldn’t put the reevaluation of death certificates showing a direct causality in the semantics category. There is discernment involved. But there are also medical evaluations that coroners use in comorbidity cases. And standards vary from jurisdiction to jurisdiction. There are other credible private sources in Italy saying the same thing as the government officials that I’ve quoted.
Italian demographics and living conditions with multi generational families in crowded conditions is a problem with communicable diseases of all types. Italy is second to Japan as an aged population. And Lombardy has a high concentration of them.

That’s if you don’t count old age as a comorbidity. The average age of the deaths is 81. Which is probably comparable to the flu. Almost no one that age is fit and healthy. Even if they don’t have a comorbidity besides age.
I’m not sure from the translation that the 12% didn’t have a comorbidity, only that it wasn’t the primary cause of death. Either way that’s only 12% of the deaths being from the virus, which drops the death count by 88% to about what Italy experiences from the flu every 10 days with 15,000 flu deaths on average each year.

It seems that the data is closely linked to the actual position of the infection curve of a given country at the given point in time. That being said it is very likely that every country will have an apex position when the numbers are topping. I think that it is very, very sad to seek for scapegoats, for it is a threat that really is facimg the whole humanity.
