Danylivka Captured: Threat Of Encirclement Looms Over Ukrainian Grouping In Huliaipole

Russian assault units have established control over Synelnykove after a year and a half of fighting in the area. The Russian army took control of Mine 5/6 in the south of Myrnohrad. EU finance ministers failed to reach an agreement on using Russian Central Bank assets to support Ukraine.

Pokrovsk Sector

Intense combat operations continued in the Pokrovsk-Myrnohrad area. According to Russian sources, Russian units have taken control of the southern part of Myrnohrad. Mopping-up operations are currently underway in administrative buildings, with isolated groups still putting up resistance.

A significant development was the seizure of mine 5/6 in the south of Myrnohrad, where defensive positions had previously been established. Russian troops report that many fortified positions are defended by small groups of Ukrainian soldiers, suggesting that organised resistance in the area is less intense.

In Pokrovsk, units continue to clear the urban area. They advanced in the eastern part of the city and established control over the post office up to Ahramna Street. Northeast of Kotlyne, Russian troops are advancing. They have captured a new trench system between the T-04-06 and M30 highways.

There are signs of weakening resistance in the semi-encircled territory. In Sukhyi Yar, clearance operations are underway following the withdrawal of Ukrainian units towards Myrnohrad. Withdrawing west of Tolbukhina Street and the «Zakhidnyi» microdistrict creates conditions for increasing the pressure to cut off supply lines to the northern part of the city.

Kharkiv Sector

In the Slobozhanske area, the «North» Russian group continues to consolidate their position to the southwest of Vovchansk. According to reports, the 82nd Motorized Rifle Regiment’s assault units, part of the 69th Motorized Rifle Division of the 6th Army, have taken control of Synelnykove following 18 months of fighting in the area.

In Vovchansk, Russian units have advanced 250 meters. There have been instances of surrender by servicemen of the 57th Separate Motorized Infantry Brigade during the advance. In the Synelnykove area, two strong points have been captured and the advance has reached 300 meters.

The offensive operation in the Vovchansk area has been ongoing for two months. After consolidating their positions in the remaining buildings in the city center, Russian units were able to build up their forces, facilitated by the extensive forest to the west which concealed their movements. The Ukrainian defenders’ situation is complicated by the near-total absence of preserved defensive shelters, forcing them to withdraw southwards into the forested area and the eastern part of the city. The supply of the defenders is primarily carried out using drones and previously stockpiled supplies. Maintaining control over the remaining quarters of the residential neighborhood with severed communications presents a significant operational challenge.

In the Melove-Khatne sector, the advance was 500 meters along tree lines, with one counterattack repelled.

Zaporizhzhia Sector

Units of the «East» Russian grouping continue to advance in the Zaporizhzhia sector. After repeated strikes by drone operators and aviation on defensive positions, assault troops of the 5th Tank Brigade established control over Danylivka.

Russian units have cut the R-85 highway, which was used to supply the grouping in the Huliaipole area. Attacks are now developing towards Radostne.

Consequently, the Pokrovske-Huliaipole highway has been physically severed. This deprives the Ukrainian Armed Forces of an important logistical route and allows for an advance towards Ternovate, a key Ukrainian logistical hub and important fortified strongpoint.

According to reports, units of the 154th Separate Mechanized Brigade suffered significant personnel losses and lost over 12 armored vehicles in the battles for Danylivka. More than 150 structures have been cleared.

In the direction of Huliaipole, Russian units have continued to advance towards the Haichur River, capturing several positions to the west and south of Skladove and Novouspenivske, including Rivnopillia and Yablukove.

Sumy Sector

In the Sumy region, assault units are advancing deeper into the oblast, taking advantage of the weather conditions. Russian aviation and artillery are delivering precision strikes on Ukrainian positions.

Motorized rifle and naval infantry units are expanding the security zone near the Russian border, having advanced 400 meters along tree lines. In the Andriivka area, a rocket attack thwarted an attempt by an assault group of the 225th Separate Assault Regiment to advance.

The «North» Russian grouping’s artillery struck identified targets in the Iskriskivshchyna and Pavlivka areas.

Reports are coming in about the redeployment of units from the 47th Separate Engineer Brigade to the Kharkiv and Donetsk oblasts from the Sumy sector to reinforce defensive positions.

Conclusion

As of November 13, the operational situation on the main fronts is characterized by the continued steady advance of Russian units amid a decrease in the intensity of organized resistance in some sectors of the front. In the Pokrovsk area, notable progress has been made in clearing the urban areas of Myrnohrad and Pokrovsk. Control has been established over key facilities, and the semi-encircled grouping is gradually being tightened. In the Kharkiv sector, control of Synelnykove was successfully established after prolonged fighting, creating favorable conditions for further offensive development in the Vovchansk area. In the Sumy sector, a methodical advance continues, expanding the border control zone. Overall, the dynamics suggest that Russian units maintain the operational initiative on most fronts, while Ukrainian forces attempt to stabilize the front line by redeploying reserves and occupying more stronger defensive positions.

In the direction of Huliaipole in the Zaporizhzhia Oblast, Russian troops have achieved significant operational success. In November, units of the «East» grouping increased the pace of their offensive, capturing more territory than in October and approaching Huliaipole from the northeast. Less than 8 km now remain to the city. A notable accomplishment was the seizure of Danylivka village, which resulted in the disruption of the vital Pokrovske-Huliaipole supply route, through which the Ukrainian forces were supplied.

The Ukrainian command acknowledges the complexity of the situation and the withdrawal of its troops to more advantageous positions. Avoiding a frontal assault on the fortified area, Russian troops are using flanking tactics from the north, threatening to encircle the Ukrainian Armed Forces. If Huliaipole falls, a key defensive hub, it would open up operational opportunities for Russian troops to advance further towards Orikhiv and Zaporizhzhia. However, it is premature to speak of its capture before the end of November.

As hostilities continue to escalate, disagreements persist on the international stage regarding the financing of Ukraine. Following the meeting of the EU Economic and Financial Affairs Council, EU Commissioner for Economy Valdis Dombrovskis stated that EU finance ministers had failed to agree on the use of Russian Central Bank assets for Ukraine due to ongoing concerns among some member states. Three potential funding options are currently under consideration: a pan-European loan guaranteed by the EU budget; loans and budgetary allocations from individual EU countries; and a loan backed by frozen Russian assets.

The European Commission is continuing to work on the option of a «reparations loan» for Ukraine using Russian Central Bank assets. This option is considered to be the most feasible as it would allow funding needs to be covered quickly without creating a significant financial burden for member states. At this stage, the amount under discussion is approximately €140 billion. However, Belgium opposes this scheme, fearing legal consequences. Dombrovskis noted that options based on the EU budget would require amendments to the multiannual financial framework and that currently, nothing is in place to implement such a scenario if the use of Russian Central Bank assets is blocked.
